re do the jars then pressure cook them. They have had plenty of time to lose nutrients to contams and lose moisture.

Is anything growing in them?

My advice is to PC the jars no matter what you decide to do.

They need to be sterilized before you can inoculate. Or, if you decide to throw them out you should PC your jars before you dump them, or you'll nuke yourself and your work area with nasty contam spores the instant you crack the lid.

He has not inoculated the jars yet.

A week is a pretty long time to let the jars sit.  The moisture content may be on the dry ish side.  I'd remake them.

Did you steam them, or just make them up and let them sit?

If you steamed them, I'd just go ahead and inoculate without PCing again.

If you didn't steam them, PC them, toss what's in there outside, clean the jars outside and then start over.

If the jar is made properly, shouldn't the moisture content be the same in a month as the day you made it? Unless there's something alive inside the jar using the water, where could that moisture possibly go?

It goes into the air through evaporation.

Into what air? The verm filter should keep water in as well as contams out. If the jar's not been inoculated yet there should still be tape over the gas exchange holes, right?

If you have an extra CC of spores and a little bit of time why not just redo all but one, PC and inoculate the one, then tell us what happens?

No, that's not really how it works. It helps somewhat to stop evaporation, but given enough time, cakes will dry out.

yes...enuf time meaning months...not a week or 2...they wouldnt be able to sell pre sterilized substrate jars online if that were the case....the whole stock would only last a few weeks

op the fact still remains that u need to restart it all, could have grown a contam in a week if it wasnt sterilized
