Sometimes I want my parents to die
    #16683161 - 08/11/12 07:03 PM (9 months, 1 day ago)

They love me very much and i love them, but my mom overbears herself i feel into my life. Im 18 so obviously it feels like this.

I just cant imagine when im 35 and she is calling saying "when are you going to get married? when are you going to have kids?" i feel like she is always judging what i do and telling me how to do things

sometimes i feel like i'd have a better life if she was dead  i would only have to answer to myself

anyone else know that feel

Pull it together, you ingrate. They brought you into the world and fed you and clothed you and you'll be sorrier than you can ever imagine now when they're gone.

The only time I wished my parents were dead is when they were physically and verbally abusive to me without provocation when I was a teenager. My mom not so much because I knew she was the victim of abuse at the hand of my father as well, but some of the shit she said took me nearly a decade to "forget".

As I grew older and started to experience more of the shit you have to deal with as an adult I developed some sort of sympathy for my parents behavior back then. It wasn't okay, but I've seen/experienced how failing relationships, money woes, and stress can make people do crazy shit they never thought they'd do. That being said I will never behave like that toward my spouse or my kids. Some of it was truly out of pure malice.

During a few of my early relationships when things started to go sour I saw way too much of my father in myself than I was comfortable with. I never hit anyone or verbally abused them, but I certainly thought some really terrible thoughts. I was fortunately self-conscious enough to break the cycle. Our favorite sacraments played a big role in that I think. Just let go.

When I was your age I was this close to just cutting all ties forever, but a younger sibling kept me involved. In some ways, I think I'd be better off for having cut all ties back then, but I couldn't do it for the sake of my relationship with my younger sibling. Fortunately I was around to step in and prevent the same sort of abuse from happening toward my youngest sibling. I'm pretty sure my parents regret their decisions back when I was young. I've made my peace with my parents. We're more or less on equal footing in terms of our interactions though sometimes they do try to pry or help a little too much.

Yes, it's frustrating to be an adult--and you're really not at your age--and have your parents questioning your every decision. In the end they mean well even if they've forgotten how annoying it was for their parents to do it to them at that age. Be thankful that's all they've done and do. In the end, if you want to be treated like an adult, you have to first act like one. Don't be afraid to playfully stand up for yourself or throw a little back at them.

I hope my parents realize that I actively hold back some of the things I'd like to say to them namely lose weight and eat better so you'll be around to enjoy your grand kids. There are two sides to the overbearing game.

You remember that old phrase mother knows best? It's almost invariably true.

I know you're just venting but after she's gone you will be willing to give anything to see her for just 5 minutes.

OP move of their house, if you can't afford it too fucking bad, you are stuck listening to them. Once you are on your own, you can do anything you want, until then you are just a little kid.

I wish my parents would leave me alone too, but then again it sure is nice that they answer my calls for help whenever I ask. They parent you because they're your parents, they care - a lot - about you.
If you feel they're overbearing then at some point you have to stand up to them! It's tough to say no to your family, but you have to do it sometimes.

Totally fair and understandable. And all weird, freudian shit aside.... I think the thought of wanting to kill your overbearing parent isn't entirely healthy. Doesn't make you satan either-- I think the level to which that is normal depends on how you react to the thoughts/feelings.

You will always have to walk some kind of line, if you want to please both yourself and your family. Many people make a conscious choice at some point in their life that they will choose one or the other.

Some can't make that choice, or don't realize it's theirs to make.

If your parent is intelligent, try to have calm and meaningful dialogue explaining your position, and the things you want in life and why. Sometimes talking can help a lot. Maybe if she sees you're a decent kid and have some kind of plan, and are heading in a good direction, she will worry less....

Are we getting the whole story? Do you screw around and get high? Does she know this?

Your life is your own, and you should live it to make yourself happy. But if you're under 18, suck it up for real until you're old enough. If you already are, maybe it's time to introduce a little distance between you and your mother.

Good luck. The right thing isn't always easy. But if you really pay attention... you usually will know it when you see it.

Get used to it.  I am 41 and my mom is still always on my ass about getting my hair cut. In fact, I have not talked to her in over a year because of it. And honestly, that is the only way you will get away from it is by cutting off all ties. I know it sounds wierd, but you did not ask them to bring you into this world just so they would have someone to control. You do not owe it to them and they certainly can not force it on you, especially if you are an adult.  Tell them the way it is going to be or they can go take a flyin leap or accept it for what it is and deal with it.  Your choice, but make one.  It is the only true freedom anyone still has.

I'm in my 30s. My mother molested me as a kid.

I wait every day for her to die.

The only reason I haven't killed myself is that I want to see her dead body.

Stop worrying about what your mom thinks of you man. It could be worse.

What your feeling is not unique but it is also awful at the same time.

The easy answer:  forgive  -- forgive yourself for feeling that way, and then work on forgiving your Mom.

The hard answer:  same as the above

Seriously? What a fucking spoiled ass kid. You live with your parents and you think you'd have a "better life" if they were dead?

Wow, you have no respect at all for what they've done for you. Hope you end up in a ditch. This is exactly what is wrong with this generation.
