shopping addiction?

so guys i love to go shoppin (a little too much) i generally spend about $100 on clothing or shoes. i live with my boyfriend, and we can afford it but it's extremely unnessicary. I am aware that it is but it's something about the instant gratification that gets me. I know i shouldn't be doing it but I do it anyway and it at the time and then as I pay for it I'm all when i'm at home i enjoy my purchases but as i wear them and look at them it's like a feeling a guilt overcomes me all over again
what do you think the root of it is and what can get me to stop

Cut up your credit cards. Keep very little money in your wallet. Make a goal or budget. Create barriers. Make conscious efforts to do things for fun that are free. If money is what you need to create satisfaction and happiness, you are a slave to money.
Maybe use the money to do something thoughtful for your significant other - take him to something you think he'd like or what have you.

on average i'll spend anywhere from $50-$100 a week. depending if i go shopping or if i order something online. so on average about $150-300/400 a month would be spent on miscellaneous things that i don't need just strictly want.

yeah, I guess if you can easily afford it then why not... Lots of people spend that much money on whatever their hobby is. But if you really feel bad and want to spend less, JesusIsLord's advices seems a good way to do so.

Well at least you work for your money. Im not going to lie, I was expecting you to say you don't work your bf pays the bills.
I really dont see a problem unless you are having money problems. I mean, how is shopping any different then going out to the movies or any other enjoyable activity. Unless you have some sort of goal like buying a house.

There may be a day in the future when your economic situation is much more dire than today, and you may need the safety net of cash savings for living expenses, as you go to look at your savings account you will see there is not enough there, and then you will look in your closet and beg to have those shoes back into cash.
Materialism is not a healthy way to live, make yourself and others proud, act like a responsible person and buy only what you need, and save the rest for more challenging times, which are more likely to happen given today's world.

I had a vinyl addiction for a while, every paycheck I got I would go and blow 20 bucks on used records. Big deal, now I have a little record collection instead of a bunch of ashtrays full of cigarette butts...

All those people on the show had been compulsive buyers for years. I guess their main problem is they don't want to throw anything they buy away though.

You just gotta develop self control and think of all the better things you could put that money towards. I know the feeling you describe of how it feels good when you are looking at shit and about to buy it but as soon as you do that feeling is gone, I get that feeling when buying blu rays/dvds. If I go in to get 1 or 2 I'll end up seeing like 10 that Ive been looking for and want to get them all but I dont let myself.

Just use your extra money to buy low denomination coins by the box, that way spending it on anything frivolous takes more effort.

I'm trying to build a loungy house set, but I end up going for everything. Shit, I even grabbed an elton john album just because of how ridiculous he dressed for the cover. Some of my favorites have been random or unlabeled. It just sucks because there's only one store in town that carries anything close to what I want.

and I bet they charge top dollars. I mostly dig for sample so I'm more of a dollard bin type of guy and I still manage to find nice soul/funk/disco, prog, jazz records there.

Actually no! It's a Rasputin Records, so I get stacks of $1 albums. I wish there was someplace selling legit new presses but the only shop here is all rock.

I had an amazon addiction for the longest time. Would buy all sorts of little random things and get the delivered at work. Made my days more enjoyable, spent around $20 bucks a week.
Quit cold turkey. Getting laid off probably helped too... You appreciate money more when you dont have any. Back to work and havnt ordered a single thing in months

Wait, here's a few better options.
Each time you want to go shopping put the money that you would have spent in a jar and after like 3 months look in the jar and see how much money you saved.
You could donate the money you waste to charities or something where people need help!
Stop thinking about yourself.

I used to be a lot like that, I'd buy new shoes just about every week, games, clothes, CDs, anything I wanted. Because I had the extra cash too. Then I started doing heroin and 50 dollars a day goes into my arm. I can't afford to buy shit anymore. I'd say as long as the cash is extra, and if makes you happy. Then do it.
