...If it helps it doesn't actually look grey grey, it just isnt as white as the mycelium around it. Also I dont see anything that appears to be cobweb like?

But I'd rather be sure it's safe.

Worst case scenario... If I did eat fruits from a cake with cobweb, what is the worst that can happen?

It's about like being bitten by a radioactive spider, you'll shoot spores out of your hands. :yesnod:

Actually, it's more like eating a moldy mushroom. :nonono:

LOL I wouldnt mind being able to shoot spores out, Mushies for life

But If I did accidently fruit a cobweb cake and didnt know it had cobweb, would I get super sick if I ate shrooms from it?

Also, once I open the lid to the jar, would cobweb likely be ontop of the dry verm layer?

And what smells indicate contams?

A non mushroom smell is a sign of contams

From what I can see, the jars look like they're ok.  If you have cobweb you'll know soon since it usually overtakes the jar within 24 to 48 hours.

It's possible that a variety of contams could be on the top of the dry verm layer.  I've opened a few jars that had cobweb starting on the verm layer that worked out fine, you just want to make sure that it hasn't made its way through or around the verm layer.  Obviously, rinse the cakes well before you dunk

Thanks for the input deathryder  Do you have any guesses of what the first picture might be with the red-ish spot? It hasn't grown since I took the picture if that helps

Edible P cubensis mushrooms grow in the wild from cow manure in open pastures.  Try to think of any possibility whatsoever that a sterile cow pie could ever exist in nature. . .

Probably a speck of rust or minerals as previously stated by another poster.  I could barely see it in the pic.  I wouldn't be worried about it at this point in time since its not showing any signs of growth.

HAHA I just dont know a whole lot about contams right now. But consuming cobweb mold doesnt sound too healthy to me. Could those 2 jars have a different contam other than cobweb? It just looks like the mycelium is growing away from those spots and I know my inocculation spots were higher up in the jars.

The moisture has been there for weeks now. Someone said it may be due to having the verm/brf too moist and the mycelium pushed it out?

My cakes always get a little bit of moisture which rolls around the bottom of the jars when they're close to ready.

I don't think it means anything, IF you followed the tek and made your cake correctly.

To me, it simply indicates (and you can see) that the mycelium is putting the squeeze on the substrate and some moisture is forced out...when ready to birth you can actually see it drawing away from the sides of the jar.

I wait until I see pins on all my jars before birthing them.  A little moisture is always there too.  I think it's all good and normal.

Yeah I asked about the excess water before and people said unless it "pooled" then it was alright.

I birth tomarrow so my fingers are crossed for no contams  :undecided:

Its a wonderful, pleasant smell... I describe it as "fresh" or "clean"... strangely enough its reminiscent of the smell of a new plastic tub.  Its definitely a great smell.

I think cakes smell weird. Even weirder after the dunk.
But if they all smelled the same that's probably a good sign.

I abhor the scent and taste of shrooms.  I gotta mask it or I start to gag pretty quick.

They definately didnt smell "fresh" or like a plastic tub. Again, this is my first time so I dont have any idea of what it should smell like. Also I never eat mushrooms on anything cause they taste like shit LOL so I dont even have a good idea of what they smell like.

They all did smell the same but to me it doesnt smell good :/

Also 2 cakes had small areas where the mycelium looked grey and glossy. Didnt wanna risk it so I just tossed them. I would have buried them outside but I dont have any coir... oh well.

Can I get a general idea of when to mist and fan? I know you mist heavier before pins then you mist lighter once you have pins?
