Many people report seeing similar things on DMT.
Outer Space seems to be where your consciousness goes.
Consciousness in terms of:The state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings.
Bull shit. I've done it many times and never went to outer space.

What uncharted territory are you going with this consciousness is like a CD?

CD or human gets destroyed then information is lost. It doesn't go to another plane of existence.

Your argument doesn't make any sense, the information on the CD is not lost. Your argument supports the opposite of what you contend.

Another question:
Is a CD conscious of its own existence?
-------------------- We are here to assist, to teach you to evolve as we go through this process together. We give our own version of things only to bring you to a higher consciousness. No matter what situation you find yourself in, it is the power of your thoughts that got you there. It is also the impeccable belief that thought creates that will transform your experience and the planetary existence.

Ease up. You're right though. And I was trying to be a bit clever (even though I wasn't entirely serious when I posted), so I suppose I deserved it.
- - - -
I was listening to Thomas Campbell when he touched on death re: information. He said something along the lines of:
"In information systems, dying means you end up with no information. It dissolves. It loses it's order, structure, meaning and significance."
I agree and so I think you're analogy with the CD is good. That said, one might argue that some of the information contained within the vessel (human or otherwise) is transferred to the environment during it's life with the legacy being stored in memory somehow. Thus, there is some essence of continuity for the information (still on the same plane though).
Then, if we were interested in hypotheticals (which we probably aren't...), one might conceive of the ability to image the human brain/body (as a CD is burned) and inject it into a virtual reality, thus producing consciousness (albeit virtual). Depending on your definition of consciousness, this may represent a transcendence of death. Point being that if the CD is burned prior to being smashed, the music may continue on (as pointed out by falcon). An important difference, I'd argue, is that this continuity is on another plane (subjectively, for the cloned consciousness/information system), as the entity would exist, for all intents and purposes, quite separate from our realm. That is, until it understood the nature of its existence/being and managed to communicate/interact with our realm. BUT, that's just a hypothetical and I don't know of its possibility or likelihood and thus its relevance. I only mentioned it because I recently read Permutation City by Greg Egan (cool book!).
Quote:
Memories said: Consciousness is a property of an active brain, and when you die, your consciousness ceases to exist.
I suppose I agree with this, although I think there's a little more to it. I tend to think of consciousness as a field which animates matter (in different ways, depending on the chemistry). There's an intelligence to this field which drives evolution. Nature, as a novelty conserving engine (as McKenna would put it), is the means by which this field evolves. When we 'die', 'our' consciousness (that is our unique, individuated point of observation and perception as a result of an active human brain) and our identity is indeed all but lost; although it has contributed to the overall field and as part of that field will re-emerge within the material universe once more, though not necessarily in human form (perhaps not even within our universe *shrug*), as an agent and as part of the strategy for the evolution of the field.
The above may not be strictly measurable, but I don't think it's quite merely a spiritual belief. As a theoretical model I think it fits the data well. Anyone, please point out where it's off though.

What about quantum entanglement or "spooky action at a distance" ?
Quote:
Subatomic particles do it. Now the observation that groups of brain cells seem to have their own version of quantum entanglement, or "spooky action at a distance", could help explain how our minds combine experiences from many different senses into one memory.
Previous experiments have shown that the electrical activity of neurons in separate parts of the brain can oscillate simultaneously at the same frequency – a process known as phase locking. The frequency seems to be a signature that marks out neurons working on the same task, allowing them to identify each other. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn18371-brain-entanglement-could-explain-memories.html

information cannot be destroyed ever.
The theory I like to stand behind is that the universe is consciousness spread over a possibly infinite space. When life is created this consciousness is pin pointed and allows for experience to happen. When we die awareness can remain intact but it is spread back through which it came, the universe!
check out this video, I liked it!
