I really ain't trying to offend. I am as guilty as most if not more. Some "coprinoids" are more closely related to Agaricus...Mycology is in flux. Even the experts don't know their ass from a hole in the ground...and you can quote me. Sometimes less is more and patience is a virtue.

i also feel like linking them to that site, they learn a lot more (maybe i'm too hopeful). it's better than just spitting out an id imo.

Yes and unless you know taxonomy, the history of taxonmy, morphology, have a definite species concept, and phylogenetics, and can site authors that support your scientific conclusons, AND explain WHY the name was changed, arguing names is pretty pointless.
That being said, it's easier to go with the flow...

It's tough to identify this type of mushroom to species. I'm glad we can at least say "Coprinoid" or "Inky Cap" or something vague to include some form of ID.
We really need to have a quick and powerful pictorial of the most common ones and what separates them.
I'm not specifically against lumping the "ink-caps" together. (All hail the macromorphologists!) I think your ink cap pictorial is a good idea! We get enough of those kind of ID requests around here and it could be useful.

In reality this probably shows the holes which exist in Psathyrellaceae as a family, Psathyrella as a genus provides enough problems all by itself.
As someone sitting in the middle ground, it does get confusing, having said that there are other parts of the kingdom that I find more ambiguous.

I feel like Psathyrellaceae gets treated like a dump for smooth brown spored mushrooms. When will these genera get some Phylogeny? I was promised phylogeny by mike Kuo, and he is, after all. The mouthpeice of mycology
