Anyone from there I'm seriously considering moving to hillsboro,Gresham or Portland. Looking at the map it looks like a whole lot of nothing.

From a friend who went to school in Washington, Oregon and Washington are great places as long as you do research and pick the right town. Like you said, the populated areas are cool, but the rest is a whole lot of fucking nothing

I should check out Eugene. I'm definitely moving there I just wanna make sure I pick the right place to save myself the hassel. Portland seems cool but I don't wanna be too metro. I would like to be close enough though

Gresham is not too far from Portland but it's a pretty small town. Portland can get hot and humid as balls but it's also a very pretty area. Eugene is really nice and decently sized, there are some nice smaller towns outside of Eugene that are worth looking in to although i was advise against Veneta as it gets ridiculous amounts of pollen and spores and is pretty isolated (Willemette Valley = Valley of Sickness) but there are other areas around Eugene that are cool.
further north and west from Portland there are places like Astoria and Seaside. Seaside is cool, decent sized town but not too big and not as dinky as Astoria. both are maybe 2 hours from Portland, so going into the a metro city on weekends of whatever is totally do-able.

Thanks a lot, I looked at Astoria a while ago it looks cool but I'm iffy about living on the water like that. I'm in Georgia now so hot and humid means nothing to me, do you know a lot about Portland? Eugene looks really nice I hadn't considered it until now. Also thanks for the heads up about the pollen ,that would ruin my life.

i have a friend who's in Astoria that i'm actually up to visit right now. it's probably the 4 days out of the year where it's unbearably hot but most of the time the weather is really nice. i usually fly in to Portland and it's always kind of still and a bit warm/muggy, even in the winter. been to Gresham a couple time as i have another friend there, it's very suburby.
to Seaside and Astoria are both really nice. Astoria is my go-to place when things get bad for me. i always seem to come here when i'm unhappy and horrible things have happened back home, and i always go home feeling a whole lot better. it's a smaller town though, a lot of artists and fisherman; there isn't a whole lot going on. Seaside you would probably like better as it's a bit bigger but not so big as Portland. both are lovely towns though.
right now i'm heading to Florence, but it's very touristy there, especially now, but a hell of a lot less hot than Astoria was when we left yesterday.
basically most the places up the coast are going to be worth checking into. i would recommend Eugene, Seaside, and Astoria.

He's right about the pollen. Grasses. It's really really bad in Eugene/Venetta, and blows all up the valley. Oregon is one of the worst places in the country if you are allergic to grass. June to July.
Hillsboro sucks, the traffic is horrible for PNW. There's only one freeway, and it's the one that goes to the coast. Plus all the commuting techies.
Gresham is good if you want to live in an ugly part of a beautiful place.
Portland is nice as far as us cities go. Not big, but there are things
Seaside and Astoria are nice if you own an Internet business or have no need of a local job that pays a living wage. Or you could cook meth I suppose

I've lived here in Oregon/Washington all my life. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions about the area. :-)
I will say this though. If you are not a wildlife treehugging hippie, the PNW is not for you.

Excellent advice, I'm definitely going to need work.I'm just hoping Portland isn't like Atlanta. I'm looking for a good balance of. Nature and urban nonsense.
