My very first outdoor cubes! * 3
    #16644839 - 08/05/12 12:52 AM (9 months, 10 days ago)

overview:
basically a while back i made some donkey manure monotubs. sadly they cobwebed to no return....

well on the same day i made those tubs i took some left over manure/verm substrate and 1 quart of spawn (cambodian) and under a bush near a air conditioning unit i dug a ~2-3 inch depth hole about 4inches by 10 inches.

sprinkled in some dried dead cut grass then substrate then spawn then substrate then debris close by (dead cut grass leaves flower buds bits of bark) but the debris didnt tottally cover. then sprinkled soil (its real clay/sand soil here and not total coverage) lightly tamped sprinkled more and tamped and repeated till a nice "pseudo casing" was formed, then i kicked some more grass and debris over top and watered once every day by dumping 3 gallons of water in one go under the bush.

some days backed i noticed some of the patch had been dug up and i found skunk/racoon/oppossum tracks and thought they got to everything so i stopped watering. also note here i made some ants really really happy as ive never seen so many convoy lines before

well today i went to check and noticed PRIMORDIA popping up on the outer edge of the original patch so i assume some expansion through the soil occured and im excited!

oops i rambled again sorry here the goodies thus far and i just checked and theres two more breaking soil now!

ill be sure to post mature pics with a full view scene pic!

thanks for looking:thanx:

:borat: Ya sucks, pests of all kinds are really drawn to outdoor patches.  Not even safe from above, ive seen birds trying to tear shit up.  No surprise considering the birdseed spawn.

I'm trying a little outdoor patch right now.  It's pretty small but it's gonna rock.

Hell yeah:awedance: All thick n sheit

Can't wait to see them mature. Rye is the shit man, but my neighborhood creatures will eat anything that smells mushroomy. I suppose I could bury a colonized block of substrate, but I've lost enough colonized grains to be tempted.

i have buried cakes before with no success..... i think breaking it up slightly so the fungi is forced to re connect the mycelium, makes it slightly happier

thanks for all the comments:awesomenod:

ill get pics in a while waiting on camera to charge

SWIM grew a 141 wet gram monster outdoors last summer.  The trick is to spawn to a bulk sub indoors and then super spawn to more of the bulk sub outdoors.  But do not break up the original, colonized bulk when you transfer it outdoors... this way the grains are not exposed-- just put the whole cake on a thin layer of soaked compost, in a shady spot, on the ground (no need to dig a hole (do they grow in holes in the wild?!)... and then layer more soaked compost/manure/straw/leaves/bulk sub/verm/peat moss on all other sides- about two inches thick. Cover the whole pile with a clear plastic shotgun fruiting chamber, with extra holes, turned upside down.  For unbelievable results pipe a humidifier into it (yes even outdoor) leave that baby running on full blast forever... make sure to keep the sub at a maximum of 8 inches deep and you will be amazed at the flushes-- pins the size of "five hour energy bottles" :crazy2:

wowzers!

and ill put it as i live with 300 hundred other people on 4 acres of land with 200 buildings:wink:

my pins are tiny i took pics but am lazy right now to upload them, i can show where the animal dug up the patch. its basically little islands of substrate left and forming pins, so i assume theres not alot of food for the boomers.

soo n ill be able to make a monster patch like above on my property

Seriously, that 141 gram dude was ridiculous though... the cap was probably about 6 3/4 iches across, 2 inches thick... the stem was about 2 inches in diameter (hollow)... and the entire mushroom was about 9 inches tall!!!:mushroom2:

lol... I should have phrased it better: holes are unnecessary- infact, they restrict GE.  The sgfc traps humidity while providing GE.  The humidifier provides humidity and functions tto cool the colonizing substrate as well.  In outdoor cultivation you can do things that you cant do indoors, such as flood the mycelium with water; not to mention that you do not need to pasteurize the sub medium.

What I said about the holes was a poor attempt at humor.
