Spider Attacked by Cordyceps * 9
    #16621901 - 07/31/12 02:01 PM (9 months, 15 days ago)

I hope this is the correct forum for this, I found this while picking blueberries in Northern MI a few days ago.

I don't really know what to say about it except that it's one of the most unique fungi that I've personally seen. (rivaled maybe by the bio-luminescent fungi that I found last year) I had no idea that it lived here!

Here it is!

Thanks! Oh yeah, I kept it. He's at the gf's house with the berries.

I actually found another spider like this, but it was pretty small and unimpressive, you really had to look to see that it was infected. I'm going to go back to the berry patch soon and go on a hunt specifically for these guys.

It belongs to the family Clavicipitaceae, all of its members are obligate parasites.
