I killed a mouse and had fun with its brain 8

I injected the animal with 20% sodium pentobarbitone in the heart, subsequently perfused it with half a liter 4% paraformaldehyde and opened its skull.
I extracted the brain and preserved it in formaldehyde at 4oC. Then I cryoprotected the brain in 30% sucrose and sliced it into thick slabs. Subsequently I embedded the brain slabs in special media and sliced it into 6 micron sections. Then I stained it with toluidine blue dye. You can see the neurons in the cortex and what appears to be the hippocampus with the various Cornu Ammonis areas.

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed playing with the brain.

Actually I needed another part of the mouse for a legit study approved by an ethics committee. I kept the brain cause it seemed interesting and it would've been a waste to just throw it out as I was supposed to.

I quit a job because I had to do stuff on animals but I realize that it's an extremely effective method of making advances in medicine
We were simulating the symptoms of Preeclampsia by putting clamps on the organs of live mice in a few locations... bit much for a vegetarian

I didn't feel bad for the mouse because it wasn't feeling any pain. I used isoflurane-halothane anaesthesia before the pentobarbitone shot.
I wish I could've injected myself with that pentobarbitone but the mouse needed it more than me
I discovered a new receptor that gets upregulated immediately after nerve injury so it was adopted by Pfizer as a new drug target for neuropathic pain treatment. The fuckers never informed me on their progress but I had to give them a detailed report I feel angry about that.

Would you like to study my brain? All I require is some pentobarbitone.

so what possessed you to fillet the brain of a mouse and inject it with dr00gz. hopefully this was some kind of research project or had some legitimate purpose to it.

The only thing I have "discovered" was a bump on the knee that is in 75% of the population but never mentioned in text books. Might get to name it

When I'm dead, explore away. Most people aren't lucky enough to die blissfully on barbiturates.

i see it this way. they are home invaders using chemical warfare. their feces is toxic. they will drop it in our food and drag it anywhere else across your house and they dont care if they get you sick it can even be fatal. so i think its far game to kill them

I really wish I never heard that.

everyone makes mistakes, as long as you learn from them.... then theres not that much of an issue.
but why are you more worthy of life then then those mice?
to my mind theres a big difference between someone who is indifferent to what happens to a mouse, and someone who chooses to go out of their way to torture and inflict pain on a mouse. thats like psychologically bad shit.
what if a creature of some form that was experiencing turmoil came along and saw fit to torture you or something? you obviously wouldn't be very appreciative of that either.
i dunno dude i just hate hearing shit about animals being harmed un-necessarily. any poster who posted the same post would have elicited the same response from me, so it's nothing personal.

As I said it was part of a legit study on neuropathic pain. I guess I'm just curious cause I had no rational reason to cut its brain, I did because I wanted to see whats inside.

I didn't discovered the receptor per se. What I discovered was that a receptor normally expressed only in the immune system was significantly upregulated after nerve injury and its expression pattern correlated with electrophysiological aberrations that relate to neuropathic pain. I was also blessed by the god of serendipity and randomly stumbled upon a very peculiar spatial pattern of expression in the ganglion (CNS glia had it PNS glia didn't; it was so beautiful down the microscope).

My girl gasses them around 20-30 at a time and grinds up there organs to extract RNA out of them.
Science kicks ass
