 So I went to the store for some sleeping pills........

I went to the store to check out some sleeping pills... and there were several brands, so I start comparing them. It turns out that they all pretty much have the same active ingredient, Diphenhydramine. It struck me as odd, because thats the active ingredient in Benyldryl.
So I come home and look it up on the internet, Diphenhydramine wiki and it turns out this stuff has a lot of interesting applications. It can be used as an anti-anxiety medication, and also as a recreational drug at high doses.
does anyone have any expierence using this stuff for sleep, anxiety, or recreationally?

I've used benadryl before for sleep and hay fever. My doc has me on Hydroxyzine for anxiety and insomnia, and I sleep like a baby or something that likes to sleep alot... . . .

Hydroxyzine knocks me the fuck out, its a lot like diphenhydramine just a lot stronger.

You don't have to be a chemical genius to moderate a forum. It's not like the mod is ment to educate on drugs is it, they're here to filter all the bullshit instead, if it wasnt obvious.

I just spent some time reading over experience reports on erowid, they were pretty informative.
I find it odd that I have never heard of this, mostly because growing up, I had friends who made it their business to get fucked up on everything possible, and i thought i knew of all of the cheap over the counter leagal highs. Dramamine, DXM, duster etc.... But ive literally never known anyone to get fucked up on benyldryl. Also, im not a fan of cheap otc highs myself.
I only really stumbled onto this because I legitimately went to the store for some sleeping pills...

I used recreationally once. Went to sleep after 3 hours because I thought it wasn't working. As I was going to sleep I remember checking to make sure I wasnt naked because there were a few black people in my room then passed out lol. Woke up fucked out of my mind thinking I needed to be at school then I remembered I was on spring. 5min after that thought i needed to be work when I really didnt need to be there for another 7 hours. Then people kept coming in my room and chilling on my bed while I was getting pissed and yelling at them because they weren't helping me look for my phone. Was deffiently an interesting experience

This is the catch, I consider myself extremely knowledgeable on the subject of psychoactive drugs. I even took a course in college specifically on "psychoactive drugs". I have copies of Pihkal Tihkal And SPIQ on my bookshelf next to several other reference books.
Hell, I used to go home after a long night at a party, where i might have tried some unknown RC, and look through those books, trying to identify what i took through the quantitative literature in Tihkal, trying to match up dose, duration, and effects.
But, I still have such a hard time grasping the fact that I wasnt aware of this as a recreational drug.

An interesting side note, shulgin wanted to further explore this drug, and its active component mystericine, or something like that, but could never get a hold of the right precursor chemicals, and ultimately gave up.

most of my 'tripping' that i did pre-18, younger days with DPH was mildly to astoundingly unpleasant. but i went ahead and did it 3-5 times a week for a month or two, cause being a kid sucks worse than being on this drug.
main things i remember are:
-serious brain/voice time-lapse. as in someone would say something and i would respond, but had no idea i was responding or even what i said until 30 seconds to a minute after i said it.
-major urinary retention. try as i might i could not pee, id stand there for 10 minutes trying, until eventually id sit down, pass out, and somehow pee while asleep, then wake up and go about tripping.
-spiders and bugs, omfg ive never seen so many spiders and bugs.
-nothing made sense. nobody talking, nothing on tv, even my own thoughts meant absolutely nothing to me, confusingly so. id WANT to understand, id TRY to listen, but it didnt matter, the words would just be a random string of words in some structure resembling a sentence in my brain, but none of the words would illicit ANY connotation or connection whatsoever.

I used diphenhydramine for sleep, too.
If you buy 200 pills for "allergy relief", its $15....if you buy the same fucking pills, only colored blue, 200 cost you $27.
