Going Drillin'

so, over the last 6 years, I have been developing some mineral rights, and mining claims in Nevada. Its very interesting work, encompassing several square miles of area.
The interesting thing about the minerals industry, is that you never know what you have, untill you drill it out. That involves core drilling, extracting solid rock cores which are about the diameter of a redbull can. for this, you will start at the surface, and often continue coring for 1000+ feet, and you will generally need several sets of holes into a ore body before you have any idea what you have.
now, generally speaking, the cost of this work, is phenomenal. Literally approaching $100 per linear foot, considering 20 holes, that are 500 feet deep, at $100 a foot would cost you about a million dollars, thats $1,000,000.00
now, its worth saying, that if you are drilling into a sizeable deposit, spending that million dollars can actually prove up resources worth several million, or hundreds of millions of dollars if you're drilling into a high grade gold deposit. thats why they can charge so much.
So, I have a lot of claims, and mineral rights, and i have had them leased to other companies for a long time, all of whom are trying to raise money to develop them, and drill them, but they havent been able to. Also, i have other projects that are in the development stage, that could benifit very much from some drilling.
So, i dropped 30K on a drill rig that is capable of doing all the coring that i need done.
Im hoping that i will be able to get hired to drill for the companies Im working with, at a great discount (due to my low overhead), but still at a significant profit. And hopefully this will pay for my rig and all the tooling and costs associated with getting it up and running where i need it to be.
its a crazy gamble, but thats my thing.

pretty cool man. thats way beyond my financial capabilities but i would be so interested to see some of the deposits available 100 feet underground. I think the amounts of un-mined minerals has got to be staggering.

Yeah, What is found underground, is staggering. Think of it this way. We only started colonizing the western united states 120 years ago. In that time, people are still finding old wagons in the hills of the deserts of nevada.
considering that we have literally barely scratched the surface, what lies beneath, is Vastly unexplored.

so, i get a status update on the condition of the drill tomorrow. Its going into a shop to a through inspection. After that I should know if it is up for drilling a few thousand feet.
so, this work cant be done without a contractors license in the sate in which I am planning to operate. As the process to get that license takes months and months, I have no option but to partner with some local drilling companies to make this work. That should allow me to learn to drill, get a job on a rig, and also get a cut of the profits.
I have 3 licensed drillers that are interested, and I will be following up with them in the upcomming week. The profit margins on this work are absurd.... people bid with 38% overhead on their jobs and still come out the lowest bid....
If i could get a ct of the profits of a 3 month long drilling program, and also get a cut of the profits, i might actually clear $50K in a few months

says the man who is likely living in a house with walls made from materials that were 'plundered' from the natural earth, and who posts on a computer made through the same process.

i do get this argument some times from people, about plundering the earth, raping the earth, etc...
and yes, i find the irony in the fact that anyone typing these things at me, is on a computer, composed of mined materials.
As for the drilling, the program is progressing. I have found a few exsisting drilling companies that will be able to provide some very necissary things. Equipment, a contractors license, and knowledge. Since I can pretty much gaurantee that the company I work with will get the contract, I have quite an advantage.
THere is a catch however, there are some drilling consultants out there, that think my drill is not appropriate for the job. There are some concerns about burning out some of the key components due to the particular angles and depths of the holes.... This is just the opinion of a single driller... but I do value the opinion of people with valid expierence.
That being said, its still a capable drill, I think the plan is now to bring 2 drills on site, one of which is mine, the other owned by the contractor im working with on the job. My rig can take the easy holes, and his can do the more complicated high diameter angle holes.
fun stuff

Well, a little update on this.
I have been working with an existing driller, and we have decided to go into business together. We should be wrapping up things shortly and submitting a bid for aroudn a million dollars worth of work in the near future.
partnering with an existing expierenced driller (who has 2 rigs of his own) is a pretty good deal, he can handle all of the permitting and licenses and insurance.
YEEEE, im pretty jazzed

In Eastern Oregon the mining has pretty much polluted the whole area. Thanks.
