Theres people that added me to their facebook and now I'm friends with them but just because I once saw them in the street or once went on a bus with them or they heard about me from a friend..,

I don't understand this. I walked past one of them today in a shop and they looked away as if they hadn't noticed me. I kinda did the same but we both KNEW.
This new age of techno surrogate friendship is fucking surreal man,
I don't even like talking about it, thats how fucked up it is. We think we should act like it doesn't even matter, to be cool... but wtf how fucking weird is it that I'm in your virtual life, can see all this shit about you yet we don't even acknowledge each other in the street IRL. Its fuckin weird.

Depends on the person, I woulda likely said wassup if you made eye contact with me, even though I'm not on facebook.
If neither of you have any balls to say hey, then you're not going to talk.
I think some people just like to make themselves feel important by having lots of friends on facebook.

If you just met them on the street how the hell do they find you on facebook, is there like 30 people living in your town?

Well you're not wrong there.
I'm guilty of it too, this was a girl who I thought was sexy so I accepted her friendship request but truth is i don't even know the bitch. Never spoke to her. I only know of her cuz she went on the same bus to skool as me 16 years ago Its just fucking weird.
I have another guy who added me and I've spoke to him once in my whole life but I felt obliged to accept the request
I don't really want to be in a popularity contest though I feel socially obliged too
(ys we live in a smal town)

How many friends do you have? I want to judge your popularity as a human cuz if its under 167 then you may be a sucky friend.
Ive got a feeling the only thing driving my social obligation is my testicles.

I've been noticing this a lot lately, there always seems to be someone in the group, sometimes more than one, that is stuck to their facebook account on their phone or still on the computer facebooking when they could be spending time with their real friends having real conversations with real people they can actually smell and touch.

This is exactly what makes fb weird...I used to have the situation explained in the OP happen to me (more in the myspace days) But I would actually have the balls to say to someone IRL "hey I think I've seen you before."
But then they would get all self conscious and hide!wtff.

Delete that shit then, man. I got rid of mine. At first I thought it would in some way hinder my social life - then, something weird happened - it didn't. at fucking all. whatsoever. Because the people I actually am friends with, and want to talk to, I do. I don't need to creep them on facebook. Even when I had a facebook, I never became ACTUAL friends with someone through it. I really don't see the point in that shit anymore. Never did either I guess.

i can see someone not actually noticing someone else. when i'm in the grocery store, i try to get what i need as fast as possible and get out. the environment is too crammed with subliminal messaging, and for a person like myself who notices every little detail about their environment, it can become disorienting and extremely tedious. i do notice this phenomenon as well though, so i'll say you're probably correct in assuming that they saw you(op). it's really just another way of destroying any community we once claimed. in the past, if you saw an old friend on the street, you'd obviously say hello. now the media has basically circumvented that social response, and we as individuals no longer benefit from the connections and opportunities that would arise in a renewed friendship. that has been done for us already if we participate. how successful are they at this?...i'm sure there are numbers out there, and i know that i say hi to everyone who i truly recognize.

Kinda like this website.
I know you, but I don't know you.
Its a aweird social phenomenon. Its actually changing the world as we know it. For real.
Its impressing in a way, but I feel forced to hop on the boat simply because everybody is doing it.
Politician without facebook probably couldn't win an election anymore. Companies that don't advertize on Facebook are now considered stupid.
The world has been changed. By one smart ass in a dorm room.
That should encourage all of you. One person is enough the change the world.

For real. Yesterday I went to the dealership to get some parts for my dad's car. I walk into the room to pay, and there are 2 girls, who I assume were friends as they were sitting next to each other (countless chairs in the room, usually you don't just plop down right next to a stranger), both glued to their phones. On facebook. I caught a glimpse at the one girl's screen as I walked past. She was looking at a picture of soup that someone had posted. WTF.
edit - I'll also add not one word was exchanged between them the entire time.

yeah, i have friends who always post their meals or where they are drinking/eating... fucking ridiculous and even potentially incriminating, especially when drinking.

Did you send a message or write on the wall saying you saw them, maybe they actually wasn't sure if it was you? You might end up having coffee and a laugh about it???

Every few months, I go on a facebook delete frenzy.
I'm not about numbers, in fact I have no idea how many "friends" I currently have.. hang on I'll go check.. I have 86 friends, which is a complete farce. In real life, I have about 5. Family, I have about 20, the other 61, I don't know.. friends of friends, etc..
Like last year, I went through rehab, I added about 15 or so "Friends", but as time went on (and since this was in Scotland, and most of these people were recovering heroine addicts from Holland, and I moved back from Germany to the U.S. the chances of me keeping a long friendship, or ever seeing these people again is silly.)
It's about that time that I do another purge. Last time I went from 60 down to about 14. I even deleted my mother because of all her drama. After 6 months I added her back (reluctantly).
The trick is, you just have to turn off your emotions when clicking the delete button. Look at it this way, they will not get a message that they've been deleted, and even if they do notice, then you either a. ignore them. (you'll never see them again!) b. say "Oh my bad, my computer crashed and I accidentally deleted a shit load of people, glad you're not mad, I couldn't remember who all fell off." But that's only for child hood friends etc.. the rest, ignore.
If my friends list ever gets over a hundred, I know it's time to purge.
I wish there were a national "Purge your facebook friends list" day.

PS: I had to tell one of my distant cousins: "Look, I'm not 'unfriending' you in real life, I'm unfriending you on facebook because I can't allow my children to see the weird stuff you post about your guy friend who wears drag clothes and the other vulgar stuff you post about. You will still be able to message me anytime on facebook through the message feature, you also have my phone number and can call me anytime. I hope you understand, but if not, oh well" (Paraphrasing).
Hey look, it's my facebook account, I'm not going to be guilted into adding anyone as a friend.
I suggest everyone take this stand and not be guilted into giving your facebook out to just anyone in passing.
When someone catches you off guard with "Hey what's your facebook?" just be ready to say "You know what? let me give you my email address, I hardly ever log into facebook anymore." Sure it's a lie, but who gives a fuck? Not this guy.

Hahahahah. That reminds me of when I made a post about how the gay scene should support the pot scene and vice versa and this gay dude unfriended me after he sent me a message saying he could be fired for my post because I tagged him in it. I didn't even say he smoked week. Oops?
