Great half-hour thought-provoker. It destroys all kinds of notions about authenticity and intellectual ownership of anything.

I mean I knew it, but I never linked music remixes to movie adaptations of books and the like. Thanks for posting.

Glad you all enjoyed it. It really is a breakdown of how ingenuity and progress builds on composite phenomena.

I believe the same perspective can be applied to ideology and most all facets of culture.

One day, perhaps, arbitrary things like identity and ownership will become obsolete (or remixed into something else).

yeah this is a great doco, we actually watched this in class for intellectual property law. it's a good'n.

if your interested in learning more about this new remix movement, you should look up a professor known as Lawrence Lessig. funnily enough, i think his book is titled "remix" also. it's available for free on the internet.

he's one of the advocates at the forefront of arguing that non-commercial remixing needs to be de-criminalized. he also is at the forefront of copyright law reform. interesting stuff.
