She did emotionally blackmail him, threatening to cut herself, locking herself in the bathroom with a razor if he didn't do something she wanted.
It was a pretty fucked up relationship in retrospect.
But I still don't think she deserved it

I believe in forgiveness, we all fuck up. if someone is your best friend, why
wouldnt you forgive them. sure, if they decide they're going to fuck your
girl, steal your shit or otherwise violate your trust they've proven they
arent trustworthy and certainly not worthy of the friendship. I've gotten
into fist fights with my best friend because he's a hothead, once it's done,
it's done and he knows my boundaries, the point at which I'll no longer be
there and he wont cross them even when I'm not around because he respects
that friendship

Or you could of just punched her in the face. What hurt her more? Leaving with her kids or a fat lip? Just depends on how cold she is. Punching is one of our main defense response has been for a long time now. People are always going to have that instinct so when it happens it shouldn't be that shocking.
