Indeed. Broken CFLs that collect at dump sites aren't so environmentally friendly. Neither is it safe if you accidentally break one inside your house, as they will always emit hazardous gasses.
I must be sensitive to these lights; now that I think back, I can remember the skin on my arms and face tingling and itching whenever sitting beneath one or more unshielded CFLs.

also the light they emit sucks in frequency as well as intensity. and they seem to burn out pretty fast compared to incandescent. no better life that is for sure. and you get to watch them flicker until they fail. great lights not.

Century old lightbulb that has been in continual use. The unusually thick filament is said to be one of the reasons it hasn't faded. "They don't make them like they used to" no, they're considerably worse now; how we've managed to progress backwards in this relatively simple area of science is baffling to think about. People are informed of this so why are we still producing and using these lights is also baffling.
Another 100+ year-old bulb, and with a cam that updates every 30 seconds.

My old house I fixed up and sold still had the gas light with the thick filament in it. The line was disconnected by the gas company though. I would have liked to see how bright it was.
