 I have some issues or something

Been in a relationship with a girl for 8 months. It has gotten progressively worse for us as she is struggling with depression and alcoholism, and some unknown neurological disorder. I love her, but am so burnt out from our relationship due to all of her problems, and I dont know what to do. I dont have anyone to help me cope with my girlfriend/work stress. I used to be able to spend time with her and feel better, but its been very stressful lately cause she just shuts down and our night/weekend is pretty much over at that point.
I have a somewhat stressful job working in a therapeutic environment with adults (18-24). I am growing more and more attracted to one of our patients who has her own issues, but is pretty smart and outgoing, and there is a lot of sexual tension between us. I think im trying to find what I want in my girlfriend in other people now, and its getting really hard for me to not act on my sexual feelings towards others. I am concerned I will make a poor decision soon and end up hooking up with this client after she leaves our facility, which will destroy whats left of my relationship and potentially my career.
should I go find a therapist or something?

You should clarify what you mean by this "unknown neurological disorder". Is she getting treatment and the doctors don't know what it is yet, or she's in denial and won't even seek treatment for herself?

she has recently decided to really pursue treatment for whatever it is. Doctors have suggested lupus, or MS as possibilities. She is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow to try and get close to an answer.

Then communicate.

8 months is not years, unless you want it to be.
