As an Independence Day exercise I think it'll be fun to try to catalog what laws infringe on your freedoms today. I hope it can remain civil and contributions can be added without excessive partisan squabbling. I'll go first.
USA PATRIOT Act- Violates 4th Amendment right to be secure in your personal property without unreasonable searches and seizures. Collects personal information illegally.
The National Firearms Act - Violates the 2nd Amendment. Eliminates our right to keep and bear arms.
The Federal Reserve Act- Cedes the constitutional authority to issue money to a private company.

VA Involuntary temporary detention
basically a officer can put you in a mental hospital simply on their judgement that you are crazy and a harm to them or yourself, had that shit happen to me. also i can't own a gun because of that shit.

Does it now? Would you be so kind as to explain how it eliminates the right to bear arms?

This.
If I want a Tommy gun I should be able to buy one. Agree with what it says or not the 2nd is written plainly. But these discussions are what I was hoping to try to avoid. I'm not in the mood to debate, just to share my opinions and have other people share theirs. Lets keep the thread going. Post a law you think is unconstitutional and why.

I dont necessarily think its unconstitutional... That is a techical specification that is open to reinterpretation.
But the fact that churches and certain religions get special treatment via tax exemption rubs me wrong. It sure seems like a state support of religion. The non-religious get no such special treatment.

I'm sorry, how does it eliminate your right to bear arms? Do people own handguns and other weapons? Does the 2nd amendment still exist?

If you don't wanna discuss that's fine, but you can't expect to post controversial things and not have people ask you to defend your position.

Federal reserve act was clearly unconstitutional.
congress is supposed to _coin_ money in gold and silver, and fix the standard of weights and measures for the states (commerce clause)
the commerce clause was so that all of the states did not have different sized gold amd silver coins which would make interstate commerce more difficult.
many things that they have used the commerce clause to try and justify have been unconstitutional as well.

congress passed the federal reserve act. hence that was congress doing something with regard to money. anyways, the fed doesn't even print money that is the treasury.

congress does not have the power to delegate its authority, nor declare anything but gold and silver legal tender. the treasury creates bonds to trade to the fed who creates the dollars.

I don't believe the constitution mentions gold or silver. congress can delegate authority, they do so all the time via the executive which carries out the laws and acts that congress passes. congress cannot delegate any legislative authority but they can tell other agencies to carry out their directives. the fed doesn't have legislative authority and neither does the treasury.

That is false. They can declare a severed foot legal tender should they so choose and they most certainly can set up an agency to regulate the currency. This has been established for almost a century.

It has been unconstitutional for a century. the federal reserve sets interest rates and is involved in trillions worth of "open market operations" and more all without congress' oversight. they actually adimantly refuse to let congress audit them fully. the constitution states that only gold and silver are to be legal tender in the states, so why are fed notes legal in the states? they are not legal tender.

It has been ruled Constitutional for almost a century contrary to the opinion of benighted nitwits. Congress most certainly oversees them and they specifically set the Fed apart to avoid the vicissitudes of political pandering, as is their prerogative. Nor does the Constitution require only gold and silver. In point of fact you have had your ass handed to you numerous times and yet you keep spouting the same ignorant bullshit. Did you ever actually complete a junior year of college?

You are a liar.
I have not had my ass handed to me, it says it right there in the constitution.
"no state shall ... make anything but gold and silver tender for payment of debts"
state use of fed notes as tender is illegal.
you choose to ignore it, lie, and call me names.
what is your perogitive?

"No state". Just fucking stop, Centuries of jurisprudence have stuffed your argument. It is specious, fatuous and of no account.
