What Political Party do You Most Align with (Democrat, Libertarian, Republican)?
    #16445552 - 06/27/12 04:03 PM (10 months, 17 days ago)

I used to listen to Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly and was a hard line Republican, voted McCain in 08...I was uninterested for a couple years but starting in maybe 2010 to evolve. Realized I didn't care if gays got married and had the same rights as everyone else, started to look at the historical deficit spending and realized that economically we did best with Clinton and his very slightly higher tax rates. And that the bombs went off (literally) under Bush and our economy took a major beating and that the historic Bush tax cuts combined with the war effort really put a gaping hole in our budget (the CBO actually predicted we would have NO FEDERAL DEBT by 2011 if Clinton's policies remained in place...and Bush actually quoted the CBO in 01 as part of a reason why we could go forward with the tax cuts). We only ran a surplus 4 years in the last 50 or so years and that was all under Clinton. I like a strong military but don't think we need to be fighting wars and spending billions of dollars in the Middle East.

Realized that universal health care is healthier, better, cheaper, and more efficient than what we have in the US (google most expensive health care system in the world). We have about 50 million uninsured and the most expensive system out. Way behind every modern western civilized country (and all of their citizens are covered).

Obviously I have a libertarian standpoint on drugs but I found that Republicans tend to have a harsher view on drug law (see Romney's stance on marijuana).

Abortion is a non-issue for me. Great, you are a super religious conservative, but that doesn't mean your view should be forced by government on every other American. It is a choice of the mother what she wants to do with her body. Talk to her doctor, boyfriend/husband, pastor, friends, family, and make that very personal decision. We have enough poverty and overpopulation to where an unwanted child being born is probably going to be a liability. Look where the abortion clinics are, every inner city resident can give you directions to the abortion clinic...

I do not believe in a Creator of the Universe and damn sure don't believe I have a personal relationship with it! And I believe our scientists, believe in the facts of evolution/big bang, and also climate change...Believing in science and being an atheist is very very very rare with today's Republicans, which have moved very far to the right over the last couple decades...

Long story short the government can be interfering and overreaching (I guess) but I have been pretty satisfied in my life. Using things like the Post Office, driving on Freeways, going to public school, getting loans and grants for school, making sure our food/water is safe to drink and that I won't get Mad Cow disease if I eat a burger, public libraries, trash pickup, unemployment benefits, hunting/camping, doing things like sending us back some stimulus money in down times, saving the auto industry, keeping our financial system afloat, science programs and research, safety net for the poor, medicaid/ss, etc.

I'm not saying the Democratic Party is perfect but I do consider myself just shy of moderate but still in liberal territory.
I consider myself a...
You may choose only one
Democrat
Libertarian
Republican
I consider myself a Libertarian but (if I had to choose) I more closely align with...
You may choose only one
The Democratic Party
The Republican Party
I Do Not consider myself a Libertarian

Where is the choice for "none of the above"?

“In politics, few talents are as richly rewarded as the ability to convince parasites that they are victims.  Welfare states on both sides of the Atlantic have discovered that largesse to losers does not reduce their hostility to society, but only increases it.  Far from producing gratitude, generosity is seen as an admission of guilt, and the reparations as inadequate compensation for injustices – leading to worsening behavior by the recipients.

I believe in individual liberty to do pretty much whatever you want. I also believe that if left to their own devices people will trend to the lowest common denominator and almost always act self interestedly rather than thinking of the whole. I believe in a strong national government (example: U.S.). I also believe in world government. A strong but limited national/world government is what history is trending towards. Its a good thing imo. Local and state governments have general discretion to take care of their local and state needs. All other choices are left to the people.

Let's not forget Bush was the first president in our history to not impose a war tax during a time of war. Monumentally fucking stupid, much like the no tax raising pledge. If you wanna see what less govt and very little tax revenue does for a society take a flight to my wife's birth country Colombia . You'll notice the difference the moment you step off the plane.

I think the republican party is close to dying, just like old white cocks that make up their base. They wreak of desperation right now. It isn't the same party Reagan led , or Bush sr , or even Bush  jr really. It's the tea bag party now.

Neither party's policy's are sustainable on their own.  If Ialowed to get everything they want all the time it doesn't matter who is in charge their ideology will fail us in the long run . It takes compromise and working together to make our system function properly. We seem to have forgotten that somewhere along the way. There's just no getting around the ancient Chinese philosophy of yin and yang.
