I think it robs us of developing a patient, thoughtful attention span though. Internet reading is often shallow and too dependent on scanning rather than comprehensive, thoughtful, and interactive reading. I still believe that the best reading material and information is in books or otherwise requires you to purchase it. I'm not saying the free info on the internet is not awesome, but reading the New York Times or some other type of informational text from a subscription journal or book often has top-notch information that you can't get on the "free" market.

Say what you will about internet reading but it's taught me more about controlling my emotional reactions to idiocy than anything else in my personal or professional life.
I used to come on here and get into these heated arguments, sitting on the keyboard pissed off for hours on end. Reading this forum has taught me that indulging in wrath is pointless because no one ever changes their mind once they get angry and the supply of morons is endless.

People do change their minds, people do learn new ways of thinking and looking at the world. Keep in mind that endless debating may do little to change the minds of the zealots engaged in the discussion, but there is an audience out there who may not be wedded to an opinion yet. They are the ones who often grow and learn from internet arguments.
