Drugs found in house after fire
A Springfield man was arrested Sunday after a fire broke out at his apartment and authorities discovered that he allegedly was growing hallucinogenic mushrooms and marijuana.
Raymond J. Glaser, 33, of the 500 block of South Douglas Street, one of the residents of the apartment, was arrested following the fire, which was reported around 2:30 p.m.
During a search of the apartment, authorities discovered 350 sealed mason jars with suspected psilocybin mushroom spores, along with the paraphernalia used to grow them. More than 80 grams of mushrooms had been dried and packaged, police said. An additional 742 grams of mushrooms were either being dried or still growing, a news release from Springfield police said.
About 229 grams of marijuana and numerous paraphernalia items were also recovered.
The street value of the drugs was $7,000 to $11,000, authorities said. More arrests are possible, police said.

Wrong. Jars are the most efficient way to produce large amounts of mushrooms. You get small batch sizes which means fast colonization and extremely low rates of contamination.

SWIM prefers mycobags over jars, jars are waaay too much of a hassle to clean and takes up a lot of spaces.

I just meant that's a lot of jars, I wasn't commenting on jars vs bags.

Wouldn't large filter patch bags be a better way to produce large amounts of spawn?

I've used them before alan; I personally prefer jars.
I had a terrible time with my bags being punctured or getting ruined through the cooking process. I much prefer the standardization of jars.
I also had much better contam rates with jars than with bags.
I will say breaking jars up is possibly the least fun part of things. Though it damages the spawn more I'll probably just cut it next time, especially if dealing with large numbers of jars. The damage to my hand isn't worth breaking those strong bonds.

This just proves that no matter how safe you are there is always a way for them to catch you.

No, it proves that you need to take basic precautions to avoid getting caught, and that a couple hours of work will save you years of prison time.

I wouldn't go that far if you're talking about BRF jars. Yes, by weight BRF jars produce the most relative to their weight, but they're not the fastest (though they are very fast). Fastest is grain to grain from an agar isolate. Just by the numbers, more jars would lead to more risk of contamination, but BRF doesn't contam as easily as grain. Still, contamination is about technique. If you can get your technique down contamination should be rare regardless of BRF versus grain.

Ask Roger Rabbit.
RR often says that BRF jars produce the most relative to their weight, but he also advocates grain for more advanced users.

I've never done a BRF grow in my life.
Not the best food, container size too small.
I should have been more specific, you're right. 1 qt to 1/2 gallon jars is best.

Change the locks on the outside doors so they can be there when the landlords are doing their "maintenance". Buy some furniture from craigslist. Put various things around the house so it looks like someone lives there. Put beds in the bed rooms and dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. Put relatively nonperishable food in the refrigerator. Keep the spore syringes inside fast food bags.

Growing at a location you don't live at is by far one of the safest things to do.
I hope these people didn't cause the fire. Growing cannabis remotely = fire? Sure, if you fuck up.
But there's no reason a shroom grow should catch on fire. It doesn't require electricity unless you use automatic hydration systems, and the risk of fire there should be beyond minimal.
