This is so sad. How can there be people that will be so addicted; they will use a drug until their skin falls off. From what I read; it's a derivative of meth. How can people get away with cooking this shit?!

The close proximity of Afghanistan, the absolute lack of proper drug education and the resulting use of heroin in Russia by lots of people along with the lack of proper opoid substitution programs, led to a heroin crisis in Russia.
As many people in Russia cannot afford a junkie lifestyle, one needed a cheap substitute for heroin: Desomorphine.
The problem, however, is not the drug itself: It's the dangerous byproducts that are created upon synthetization and left in the mixture. People inject them along with the drug and also without clean needles. The Russian government probably thinks its a nice thing that those people die off like flies (reminds me of the US government) so they won't do anything about it.
"Krokodil" is the result of Russia's failed drug policy.
