*Extreamly Interested in The Shroomery Knowledge*
    #16416289 - 06/21/12 08:27 PM (10 months, 27 days ago)

Ok, first of all i would like to say i want to make this as clear as possible. I made sure i checked the FAQ and guides before i made posting this. So far, iv got alot of respect for what poeple do to grow shrooms.

I came here today to get a better understanding of how to grow mushrooms. And more specifically growing mushrooms with a kit that i had bought, which is the main reason im posting because i need more specific information on this instead of reading through a guide, that i cant figure out were to even start at.

Please, bare with me as i am almost a complete noob when it comes to shrooms. Although i do know much about growing weed. As i am willing to learn and spend just as much time with learning all about growing shrooms.I have taken shrooms twice now. And both experiences have been basically life changing.

So to get to the details, i have bought a Growing Kit.

http://www.midwestgrowkits.com/grow-kits.html to be exact.

Now i would like to know if anybody is willing to give me information on how to even start, either PM or post. and maybe a step by step guide to beginning the process of growing with this kit, maybe make it simple if you can becuase there seems to be alot of terms i dont really understand. Can i just get a spore syringe and inject the spores into the jar? Thanks.

I really do seek some help, and i hope there's someone out there that can.

None of us uses kits, so specific advice isn't possible.
Watch these videos though: http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ and apply what you can.

extremely*

had to be done

also the search engine can answer 99.999% of all questions. i have been doing this for 2 years and in all that time i only had one question that i couldnt find an answer for.

use the search engine, read read read, and lurk during all of your free time. you will learn more than you think. also grow kits are a serious rip off in terms of money and experience. buy a PC, some jars, and substrate. you will reduce your costs many times over and actually be doing work you can be proud of. if you solely want the mushrooms, just go buy them. if you want the experience be ready to put in some work.

best of luck man. it is a fun hobby and if your heart is in the right place you will truly enjoy it

Don't waste money with a kit. Build yourself a SGFC, make some BRF cakes, fruit them, and get a feel for the magic.

The materials for everything are cheap enough, you are basically wasting money on a kit, when you could be buying more MS solutions.

Get some spore syringes.

Use the tote to make a SGFC.
Use the jars.
Use the perlite.
Use the lights ... if they are the right spectrum

You don't need any of that other stuff.

I started with that kit, it sits in my shed now.  It's very cheaply put together and will only offer moderate results (the lights didn't even survive the first week!).  Spend 8 bucks on a clear tote from walmart and get some more perlite and a grow light in the 6500 spectrum.  And yes, you can shoot spores straight into the jars.

Thanks sooo much for all the replies, during the time iv been waiting iv read ALOT of information about growing. And what can i say, iv started to learn alittle.

Wing, your reply seemed to help me alot too. Thanks again, but is perlite, the same as substrate? like in the jars?'

I still dont exactly have the whole process in my head, but ik to make the SGFC. do the syringe, spray 3-6 times a day. Im not really sure how the lighting works. But, can i just do this until it looks like im ready for harvest? I know to keep the humidity and temp at a certain point.

And if anybody else has any information feel free to post. But once i get everything down, i plan to post pictures of my first harvest!

Very interesting, i actually read the terrarium Tek, then the PF tek, and noticed they are both used.

http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/11585613#11585613

these two links basically gave me all the info i need. Now i just need patients, money, and time. Btw i was wondering if i could just use those jars WITH the substrate in it? would it still be as effective? I also still need to figure out how to use a proper lighting system. Because ik different strains use different light? right?

I believe i have everything, if you have any more info i need to know.

thanks.

Hey, check out Evil Mushroom's guide... I think this will give you SO MUCH specific info about every single step, you'll be able to tell which things you can salvage from the kit and which you can't. I used this guide and it worked great for me.

Different strains do not have different lighting requirements.  Cubensis prefers a bright fluorescent light in the 6500K frequency range.  The light should be bright, but it need not be as bright as for growing plants, nor does the 12/12 have to be exact as with certain plants.  If you have a bright east facing window, that is just as good as any light you can purchase.

I suggest watching the four brf tek videos and following them to the letter on your first grow  At least 50,000 new growers have already done so, and most were successful on their very first attempt.  Don't cut corners and don't obsess over humidity.  If you build your shotgun fruiting chamber per the tek, your humidity will be correct.  If you've missed the hygrometer thread that's currently active, the bottom line is don't buy a made in china hygrometer and then wonder why your terrarium isn't maintaining humidity.

"the bottom line is don't buy a made in china hygrometer and then wonder why your terrarium isn't maintaining humidity."

Did make lots of sense Rogerrabbit. Thanks for that reply. Iv looked into the BRF tek and have decided ill defintely go with that
So the light should be on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours to be exact? And thanks magicmold ill be reading that also

I might also, use some of those kit jars, and make some other cakes BRF.

I've had great results with the BRF jars from midwest growkits.  There's nothing wrong with them at all.  It's their incubator and FC kit that's a heap of garbage.

Get a clear bin from walmart, make a SGFC and fruit your cakes in it, you'll thank yourself later bro, I know I did.
