Assange: Facebook, Google, Yahoo are Spying Tools
#16415982 - 06/21/12 07:21 PM (10 months, 28 days ago) |

For several years now I have occasionally heard of law enforcement using search histories and Google maps as evidence in criminal cases. It therefore should be no surprise that these corporate beasts are agents of the government. I suspected that Facebook and twitter were Zionist tools being manipulated in the Arab spring uprisings. Destabilizing the middle East only benefits Israel and oil companies, after all.
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/assange-facebook-google-yahoo-spying-tools/
Quote:
In Julian Assange’s exclusive interview with RT he discusses everything from the uprisings in MENA, to his extradition fight, the Guantanamo and US Cable files, his relationship with The Guardian and The New York Times, global political youth movements, the current state of mainstream media and Bradley Manning.
He famously warns that social media and in particularly Facebook, Google, Yahoo are among the greatest spy machines ever invented. Once again Mr. Assange demonstrates his intelligence, authenticity and consciousness.
The man behind WikiLeaks says his website’s revelations are just the tip of the iceberg. It is only a matter of time before more damaging information becomes known.
“It’s not a matter of serving a subpoena, they have an interface they have developed for US Intelligence to use. Now, is the case that Facebook is run by US Intelligence? No, it’s not like that. It’s simply that US Intelligence is able to bring to bear legal and political pressure to them.”Quote:

I would argue that Facebook is not a CIA cover for spying on Americans. But if people are dumb enough to freely provide personal information, intelligence gathering agencies are going to take advantage.
As for Wiki leaks; if he is just a front for a destabilization movement then why is he seeking refuge? Bradly Manning is the real hero.

Wasn't it news a long time ago that Google bought Facebook? Or am I thinking of something else?

The layout will be more colorful, and that dreadful timeline feature is gone! The biggest news is privacy! I think everyone will be quite happy with our new strategy. We won't sell your information, photos or other private content. The confusing, constantly changing privacy settings will be gone. In fact, there will be no privacy. We are opening everything up to everyone. This is how Google has operated for years, and it's how we will continue to do business. If someone wants to find you, what your cat's name is, or what you told your ex-fiance' after the breakup -- all they have to do is go to www.google.com and type in your name into the search box."

They can be used that way, but they are designed to be marketing tools.
For example, I never bought anything I saw advertised until a few months ago. Gmail was reading my email and noticed that I was into cameras and microscopes. It used to be that I saw ads for gay websites all the time; the marketing people realized I wasn't into that and was actually into DSLR microscope adapters. Many websites I visited which used google ads tried to sell me one of these DSLR microscope adapters. The funny thing was that I actually really needed one of those. I clicked on the ad and bought one. I like it a lot and use it nearly every day.
I am a privacy/crypto advocate, but I also like facebook. I like sending people messages and sharing photos with my friends. I know they are watching me, and I don't care. They have always been watching me, and they will always watch me. This will never affect my life in any tangible way. I like being able to post a status update that says that I am going to Alaska, then I actually tape my cell phone to a dog and head to Mexico. So many opportunities to mess with the system.

I wouldn't take that to heart...I think the general message behind it is quite true. That data will be public and available for the people inclined to do some research.
At least all of a persons google searches. I use Startpage which uses a proxy and does not record IP's. I recommend it. Google made some announces about their changes in privacy to be made March 2012.
I remember reading a couple articles about it and I was pretty disturbed at how they are choosing to treat information

At least all of a persons google searches.
That kind of thing will never be public information. If you can see peoples google searches, you can tell which STD's they have, and all sorts of stuff like that.
Google does not index facebook, so unless you are friends with someone, it isn't that easy to see what they post. Unless they set the privacy settings to public.
