dubstep can be so many things, it's all about that bass of course. all producers relate to bass sounds in some way, if they make strait up crowd pleasing wobble and wub you might call it dubstep, if not than you might not.
i consider rusko to be the epitome of modern day dubstep....he has the huge skrillex sounds but also maintains that underground reggae/ska vibe very well.
Bassnectar on the other hand is much more freeform and experimental but he has huge womps also and carries some of that dubstep sound, which is like the evil/alien sounding tonal textures, subtley done.
Anybody making music with modern day technology has the entire history of dub music at their disposal, the fact that it is just now exploding is only a sign towards the future, trying to label 'dubstep' as one genre is so meaningless

I love how every time a thread about dubstep is made, it basically goes something like
"brah you totally don't even know what REAL dubstep is, let me show you some real shit and enlighten you"
I thought you were going to post good stuff and enlighten. The shit you posted is boring and sound like all the other shitstep out there.

i make the distinction because brostep is disposable trash noises with at best banal melodies, whereas good bass music has a sense of progression and mood, often times a specific theme and great deal of subtle variation in the basslines, memorable melodies, etc. IT HAS TASTE.

Brostep is 100% fucking terrible. I lol at these threads that pop up like once a week where the shaman of "real dubstep" shows up and drops tracks with the EXACT SAME SOUND. TEH TEXTUR3S M4N. Regardless of your view on it, dubstep and shitty house is fucking CLOGGING the festival scene. I'll stick with the biscuits and tribe thx.

or better yet...peep this other appleblim track-
its about well produced, deep textures, and it has nothing in common with what most people think of as dubstep on this board.

This shit just kind of angers me as a musician.
Hey lets see how many different variations of WUMP WUMP WOM WOM WOBBLE we can make, without adhering to any sort of musical composition.

who cares if people like brostep? you act like if someone doesn't like your dubstep/music that makes them less of a human being...
there are some really good producers in the "brostep" scene and if you can't appreciate that they're doing something good musically whether you like it or not is kinda ignorant

ahh i see now why you don't have the right ear for any of the stuff i posted...
i'm a musician too, multi-instumentalist in fact and i can beast mode a rig with multiple sunn cabs + big muff + boss delay and melt faces all day...
and btw what you posted is probably worse in terms of texture than most brostep i've heard. similar in that it has no purpose or heart as well.
