When is it time to end it?

I'm speaking hypothetically of course, but when is it time to end it?
I know the impact it will have on family and friends and is seen as the cowardly and selfish way out.
But isn't it selfish to have someone in constant pain keep on living so that you don't have to deal with their death? What's more selfish?
I'm speaking because a friend of mine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at 35. Doctors gave him a year to live, but he's going downhill fast. Right now he can barely walk.
If he's gonna die in a year, what does it matter? At least he went out on his own terms.

I could think of a really bad joke/burn to say right now but I'm going to keep it to myself...because I think it would be really offensive

is there ever really a time? i do believe that peace is the only thing that matters in the end. however, i also believe that most mood disorders can be fixed through therapy and other forms of treatment, not pharms and pills.
i pray you or your friend never choose to make such a choice. it is a lot more difficult for a family to stomach that their child killed himself than he died of cancer. my heart is out to your friend as my grandma has stage 4 cancer as well. death is the only thing guaranteed in this life time.

If i had cancer i would live through it and die with my family around me, insuring them that i love them. I wouldn't kill myself. That, IMO, would be a burden to everyone i know. Sorry about your friend

a guy on my league is about that age and he has cancer in 3 different spots.
never smoked a day in his life.
everybody is asking the same question.
i would look at alternative methods before i ended it. exhaust all possible methods first.

I find it immature to seek conflicts out of thin air.
I'm just not sure if it's appropriate, or whether or not it would offend OP.
It's not like I'm telling people to PM me to hear the joke, so you can take your imaginary butt-buddy "Bobby Lee" elsewhere.

Lol at these people talking about suicide like its reserved for cowards. Int eh case of your friend ( I know you cant see this) Nows the right time, why suffer it out when your fate is sealed, its inhumane, unnecessary and anyone else saying otherwise is either selfish or retarded.

I don't think suicide is morally wrong or unvirtuous but ending your life is a really big decision. You only get one. Has this guy done EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, he's ever wanted to do in life yet?
