The women have brought charges that he molested and raped them.  He is to be extradited to Sweden to answer them.  So far the government of Sweden has not filed charges.  But charges have been made.  Stop it.

If/when the formal charges are brought against the man, he can and should answer them...until then, it's meaningless...

If someone from Borneo said that you raped them, do you think that you have an obligation to answer that accusation even if you haven't been charged with anything?

Where's the super secret indictment e-mail?  Come on.  Which one of the links in your stuff has it?  Why is there no extradition request to Britain?  Or Sweden?  Why would the US choose to delay an extradition request so that they could later make one to a much less friendly country?

If the courts find that so then it is so.  Then again, it would be pretty easy for me to prove I have never been to Borneo, so I doubt a British court would find me extraditable.  I've never been to Britain either, by the way.

He has already been in court and has been ordered to answer.  Fucking hell, counselor, are you well?  Don't lawyers believe in law anymore?

I believe in the rule of law, sure...But I believe that some laws are morally wrong...in the case of a system that allows someone to be confined to his home for over a year without ever being charged...I'm against that..

Does being a lawyer mean that I can't have a moral compass outside of the legal framework?

Would some alleged rapist other than Julian Assange have the obligation to appear in front of the relevant Swedish legal venue or would he not?

Of the reasons for Julian Assange’s challenge to Sweden’s extradition order, relevant to this topic are:

1) Julian Assange has not been charged with any offense.

2) Sweden has a bilateral agreement with the United States which would allow it to surrender Julian Assange without going through the traditional tests and standards of regular, lengthy ’extradition’ procedures.

3) There are standard EU mechanisms (such as Mutual Legal Assistance) for Julian Assange to answer any questions the Swedish government may have. It is disproportionate, and an abuse, to use extradition proceedings in this manner.

4) Extradition law requires a "judicial authority" (e.g a judge or other independent body) to issue an extradition warrant, in order to keep the separation between the executive and the judiciary. It is an abuse to permit prosecutors, intelligence agents or other officials who are not independent to issue proceedings.

http://www.swedenversusassange.com

the fact that it is a site associated with assange/wikileaks doesn't automatically damage it's credibility

if you have a better source for facts surrounding the case, do share

He could have avoided that himself by appearing in Sweden when asked.  Should John Dillinger have been allowed to go to Canada and find safe harbor?  Don't forget, Assange was already in Sweden when he was asked to answer.  But he fled instead.

Where does your moral compass point for the women who say they were raped?  Is it OK if I go on a rape rampage in Canada and then just come home?  Australia, his home country, says "fuck him let him face justice".

Again if he did rape someone he should man up and face the allegations. But nothing points to
that being true and hes yet to be charged for anything. Id fight the system too if I was held for 500
days without charge. Fuck em all.

As I said before...to me, he's innocent at this point...he hasn't even been charged...

My moral compass tells me that if Sweden won't charge him, then they've no legitimate complaint if he doesn't show up.

We're not talking "moral" here, we're talking legal.

The fact of the matter is that in this case, the Swedish legal code is being followed. You may think there are flaws in that legal code, but that is beside the point.

As for why the UK delayed so long rather than extraditing him to Sweden immediately upon receiving the request to extradite, that is a whole 'nother ball of wax. I have no idea why the UK decided it better to delay.

YOU'RE talking about legal obligation...I'm talking about moral obligation...

I'm talking about confining a person who is presumed innocent for over a year without charges...that's what I'm talking about.
