Flash player crashing constantly (Win 7 64, Firefox)

When I watch videos online they are almost always available only via flash. Recently (past month perhaps) flash player has been crashing constantly in my browser (Firefox, Win 7 64).
Can anyone offer any help?
Generally I have a number of tabs open at one time and perhaps a number of which use flash, and often they will crash when I return to watch a video I was part way through. When this occurs the video will blank out and display an error message "The Adobe Flash plugin has Crashed".
This has persisted over the past several updates of the player. I never used to have this problem with any frequency. No other anomalous behavior is observed on my computer.
Also, is there any alternative to Adobe's bullshit for flash stuff on websites? I'm presuming no given how shoddy their record is with security and other things, but thought I'd ask.

I've been running into this exact same problem lately. You might try disabling protected mode, it worked for me:

weird I thought you two knew more about computers then anyone else on here. I'd uninstall it, reinstall it. Could be a gpu issue. I'd say flash is phasing out to be supported since html5 uses some other java video streaming library or plug in or something or another. But at this point html5 is so horribly supported by browsers, that I doubt flash is phasing out. Besides, then it wouldn't give you a flash error, and you tube would give you some option probably to use flash or some other html5 supported plug in.
I have no idea. Honestly can't say. Probably bad plug in, don't know how to fix it, I myself don't have that problem

Thanks so much Ythan, I tried things with protected mode off and I haven't experienced a problem for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to turn protected mode back on without issues in the future.

I use chrome and I keep getting notifications that flash player has crashed, or shockwave has crashed, or that chrome itself has crashed. A reboot used to take care of the problem for a while, usually until the next update, but the real problem now is that it seems nothing is actually crashing. Youtube vids still work and my tabs on chrome haven't actually crashed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash to no avail and did the same with chrome. I still keep getting these notifications while everything seems to be working. However, chrome itself has been extremely slow on my computer for a few days and explorer is running super slow too (slower than normal).
I'm not picking up anything with virus scans. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix the problem. What really sucks is that when these notifications pop up, my computer freezes for about 10 secs. And if I'm on a game it will minimize the window and freeze, causing me to die which results in my team hating me

I was having the same problem on Win 7 32bit. Flash kept freezing up Firefox or videos were laggy as hell. I disabled protected mode and now everything works perfectly. Thanks Ythan!

This is a known issue with the latest version of Flash. Adobe is apparently working on it

you mean to say every youtube video you watch or anything along those lines that involves flash, now opens a pop up window every time you click on the video? Interesting, I thought flash was just a plug in that made watching video in a browser possible. The video feed streaming in opens a pop up huh? What port does that stream in over anyway? What port rule would you make?
Are you sure blocking the port so you can't watch videos would change anything? You wouldn't be able to watch a video, but the code is probably written so that just trying to watch the video signals the site to send the signal to your computer to open a pop up. Of course blocking the port, you'd know you can't see the video even if you click on it. So I guess if you are smart enough not to click on it for no reason, then you take that problem out of the equation. Then at the same time, ads that use flash that start when you visit the site automatically, won't start working. But that is assuming that all those pop ups are made to work just by flash playing when you are connected to the site.
Does html5 have anything to do with this new flash issue everyone is talking about? I heard adobe 'flash' wouldn't be used at all with html5, that some other more advanced java back end would be needed for flash to work. But then I assume you'd need a new plug in, one that you'd remember you downloaded not involving flash. Anyhow, if I were you, I'd just hike up the browser security and privacy etc. etc. If you feel that the data is still coming in over flash, and potential viruses are getting in your computer, make the rule. Why not. Just what I think

Fuck, it's a bummer. In that situation, uninstalling it might fix it, but then re installing it will look for the latest version. Which is most likely going to be the same exact version that you have now causing the problem. Html5 is supposed to fix this fucking flash issue, by removing the need for flash, and using something else along the lines of streaming video support, to watch youtube and such. However, html5 is new, and even if it's well supported in browsers, which I don't think it is, most people aren't going to just up and re write a whole site in html5 just because it's new.
Not that html5 and html aren't pretty much the same thing, re writing a site written in html, in html5, would require, few changes. Let's see, to change html to html5, probably more along the back end would need to change. Would you have to re write some css? That I don't know.
<div> tag. Html separator
<style> tag is inline CSS
so which along these lines in '<tags>' in the mark up language would really need to be changed. It's a good question. All I know is mostly the Java support in html5 is different, and maybe a few other things.
But my main point, is that when a new style of html comes out, no one is guaranteed to go re write all their pages, even to make minor changes. When it's been out for a very long time, I'm sure most other types of html will phase out, for favour of html5. Also as far as I know it's just a rumor that html5 will fix this flash problem. Don't quote me on that I have no substantial proof

wow that blows. Do the videos pop up if you don't click on them? Otherwise yeah, I'd make a rule, and forward it to my router, if I were you
