 When you cry during a movie

Do you cry because the movie is sad? Or do you cry because something in the movie helped bring out issues buried inside your self?
I've cried during movies for no specific reason before, even during scenes that aren't all that sad. Sometimes the tone of the scene just strikes a chord inside somehow in an inexplicable way. Even a beautifully crafted scene can bring about tears for some reason, sort of like how good music brings about goosebumps.
I remember crying a bit during certain Shyamalan films which is why I've always considered him a good film maker even though many people loathe his movies. Many of his characters are just so... innocent and it seems their action towards each other are heartfelt and sincere. The Village was 
I remember crying a bit at the end of The Royal Tenenbaums (weird, huh?)
I just watched Schindler's List which is how I thought of making this thread.

For both reason you've explained . The last movie I remember crying to was Machine gun preacher .

i legit almost cried in transformers 2 when optimus prime gets captured in that park scene. i was 23 at the time i believe. and sober too

The montage at the beginning of "Up" where he grows old with his wife and she dies gets me all choked up every time.

I think it's cute how so many guys in here cry.
Makes me feel all fuzzy. 
I cry at pretty much every sad movie, war movies, Sarah Machgalapagos commericials, Disney movies, porns where the girl doesn't get the money shot, etc.

The two movies that made me cry were Big Fish and Requiem for a Dream, probably for both reasons you listed

Basketall diaries when jim is banging on the door of his moms house strung out crying and begging "please mom please" for money and a place to stay. Def struck a chord with me and my own experience with addiction and my family.

I think I get emotional and drop a tear when I get into the movie and think that could be me. Not really that it is me or I am in that situaltion, but... Fuck I don't know.
I will tell you what though, after the age of about 30, the tears come pretty easy.
I am not so sure why, but I think my mind just gets involved in one way or another. For exemple even when I was about 25 I was playing some paper and dice RPG game and the "dungeon master" said something, my facial expressions played it out. I think i just get to involved.
I think I could be a great actor, I would actually presue it but, I live to far North.

Marley and Me made me real sad.
By the time the movie ended I had one dog and two cats sitting/laying on me.
Stupid movie, but we had just put a dog down not to long before that.
Animals are crazy, they know when you are sad.

A mans ability to admit they cry shows how mature they are. Instead of rejecting a very important human emotion, they embrace it.
Crying is nothing to be ashamed.

I agree. I love guys that would stereotypically be seen as "manly", but my heart just melts when I hear/see them cry. I hate when guys try to shut out certain emotions, because they're too worried of what people may think.
It's nice to see so many guys openly admit to crying.
