Percent of getting mold
    #16390937 - 06/16/12 07:09 PM (10 months, 30 days ago)

Hey guys, so what's the possibility of a mushroom that's been fan dried to about 90-95% getting mold after storing it in a bag for 1-2 weeks?

if youve stored them for a couple of weeks and they arent cracker dry then im sure the actives have degraded quite a bit. as far as mold who knows. i dont think the majority lets them set long without being totally dry.

Impossible to say since it's impossible to know just how much water is actually left in them unless they're cracker dry. It's certainly possible for there be signs of mold appearing after a couple weeks.

Will a dehydrator be able to remove the remaining moisture completely? Or that is just a replacement for a fan to dry to 90-95%?

Dehydrator should be able to get it completely dried. I'm guessing you already know, but a desiccant in a sealed container will also work. You can get Damprid for cheap Walmart or some other store if you're having trouble find one.

Zero chance of mold if it's a paper bag and kept out in the open so it won't cut off the air supply.  If you put them in a plastic bag, there's a very good chance they'll mold.

Ziplock bag still counts for plastic bag? I think of store bags when plastic bag is mentioned.

and thanks for your input RR

Takes only a few dollars to build a dehydrator.....hasn't failed me yet.  I stick the wet mushrooms right off the harvest into a dehydrator.....then from there into a ziplock bag.....then to the freezer...

The mushrooms, which grow only during the season of torrential rains, awaken the forces of creation and produce an experience of spiritual abundance, of an astonishing, inexhaustible constitution of forms that identifies them with fertility and makes them a mediation, a means of communion, of communication between man and the natural world of which they are the metaphysical flesh.

If you plan to be in this hobby for awhile then invest in a dehydrator. I could not function in this hobby without one. I love it.
