How many of you here are predisposed to mental illness and still do psychedelics/weed? Why? I personally try to get to know the good side of unreality so that i wouldn't be so terrified of the bad side, the madness if it comes to me... Maybe it'll be easier to deal with hallucinations if I gain experience. I'm predisposed to schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia from my mother's side, bipolar disorder from my father's. I guess I'll stop gambling with my sanity after the first bad trip/panic attack or some other sign...
Sounds to me like you are trying the "Jump in head first" tactic. Seems like a really bad idea honestly. If you start seeing little signs of serious mental problems you can tackle it early, but if you delve into insanity over night you will have a much tougher time coming back from the edge. I'm not saying don't do it, but don't think of this as a 'trial' period of schizophrenia. If being schizo was fun like a trip people wouldn't get treated for it

You should stay away from the stronger psychedelics like LSD or mushrooms. Even strong marijuana has been shown to bring out these illnesses in some. But having said that, I have Schitzoaffective disorder and I smoke on occasion, to no ill effect. Of course, I'm also on meds so that may make a difference. Just proceed with caution, especially with your family history.
