Too early for Essex dude, needs to get colder first. And yes more rain. At the moment people are finding them up North and/or at high altitude.

Look out for sheep fields in the mean time

I should imagine Buxton is fantastic for libs as cool temps, high altitude, lots of rain, lots of sloping fields etc.

I've never been to Buxton, but I've a friend who lives in Chapel-en-le-Frith. He finds plenty of libs every year, I wish I lived in the Peak District!

I went to buxton once last year and it looked amazing for the habitat. I went to the race track. The only problem was it was in the middle of summer and the wrong time of year.

I would have thought so too, but I haven't been finding them in great numbers yet. Although it is my first year looking. They seem very scattered at the moment, eg. Finding single libs, or just a few ones which aren't mature and etc. I am limited by time and inexperience also :P

I tend to find they prefer longer grass than your second picture, never seem to find them in short grass, but that could differ from region to region.

They grow fine in short grass. They have a taste for certain eroded areas where the grass can be really thin.

I have my doubts about us damaging the mycelium after seeing how some of their favorite spots are battered by the weather.

One downpour and it's like you were never there. They both have a good water supply in common.

North Wales boarders reporting.

My last 3 forays have resulted in no lib finds although the amount of fungi in general has been improving.

I’ll be checking out my favourite spots on the boarders again today. We had a decent amount of rain yesterday and last night, the over night temperature was around 9.5deg, humidity at about 92%, an elevation of 150 to 200 and all my favourite spots are sheep grazing pasture. I have a good feeling about today. If I make a find a find I’ll be sure to post some pics.

walking home today and decided to check a couple fields only had ten minutes to spare didn't find any libs but saw many other species which is a good sign seeing as a week ago down in the south east (surrey) there were no signs of any type of fungus anywhere. Gonna go back and have a look tomorrow

Success at last

My fourth foray of the season and I only found two but the find has renewed my enthusiasm. There were tons of other fungi about; including Parrot Waxcaps. Here are a couple of pictures of my first find, and another Butterfly of course. I’m so pleased lol

Sorry about the mis-quote fantasticfungus.

Nice find. The light makes it look weird but i think it looks smooth and rubbery and i can see the spore deposit on the stipe. Cool field, it's not what i'm used to.

Went over Penines today searching in a new spot. Found 2 mushrooms and 3 other mushroom hunters. We gazed at eachother like star crossed lovers and then darted like deers on a highway.

I'm finding a lot of mycena, panaleous, puffballs etc, but not many libs.

Maybe still too warm and still too early.

Instead of looking for new spots by endlessly walking, im considering drive by to discover where other people are picking. Use this as a litmus test for local soil types and go from them.

Happy Hunting!

A bit of an Indian Summer here on the East coast of Lincolnshire, after  an encouraging sopping wet Summer trust the heavens to throw up a stinker...

Been so busy with life not even had chance to visit for months but today as I drove from East to West over the Pennines for work my senses perked up as I crossed the highest point and dropped down into the West amongst the low drizzle, mist and lush green sedge filled fields.

Straight way spared a thought for the UK Shroomerites... 'Bet the UK thread in full swing' I thought.

As I traversed the rolling hills of Lancashire could almost smell the Magik with many a pasture shouting out for me to pull over and hop over the wall for a scout.

Unfortunately was on a tight schedule and life has kicked up a situation where I won't be able to freely roam as once was but hope to make a few special expeditions out if and when the chance arises. Hopefully some juicy lib shots for y'all!

Peace for now :peace:

and :goodluck::mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

Lush green sounds promising, it was more yellowish last year. I thought it was due to the rain but we've had more rain this year and the fields look great, in the moors at least. The southern dales were in a worse state, i've still to check them out. I'm lacking free time as well, and it's just about the hunt since i'm not tripping. I still have some from last year.

Nice to see you back.
