im new to the forum been coming here for years and just reading but finally registered last night..ive been cultivating for years with wbs and straw and thought i would drop some words of wisdom for the newbie growers..i use to inoculate all my jars in a glove box and usually atleast a few jars would get contams..for the last 3 years ive been inoculating all my jars outside in open air and have not seen any contams so if contams is a big issue for anyone try inoculating ur jars outside on a non windy day..outside air is much cleaner imo

You really think outside air is cleaner than the air in a glove box?

Outside air has like 10x the mold spores of most indoor air.

Ive had great success open air outside. And imo there is way more dirty spores inside a home then outside..just my opinion, but when do u ever see molds growing outside hardly ever...the only molds that im aware of outside are mushroom mold...do a test and soak some hay and leave it outside and do the same thing inside in a clear rubber maid and see the difference it is huge Ive done this test and it convinced me whats cleaner and outside is definitely cleaner my inside rubber maid had all kinds gross molds and the outside one had nothing.

also ive taken contaminated cakes a bunch of times and planted them outside and watched the mold die off and the muscylin florish.i know i spelled that wrong oh well.

last thing i can say is outside air has pollen in it and is not full of mold spores or we would all be dropping dead if that was the case

You don't see mold growing outside because of the moving air. The places where it grows tend to be out of view inside or under things since those are the places the spores can settle long enough to grow. There are still more spores out there normally (something like 1,000 - 10,000 CFU/m3 is normal). The exception would be if you have a source of mold spores in your home (a building with a bad indoor mold problem could have well over 100,000 CFU/m3).

For the record to any new people reading this, outdoor inoculation is NOT preferable over inoculating in a glove box.

just saying it works for me and may work for others thats all ive been cultivating mushrooms since i was 20 and im 35 now...so that gives me 15 years experience and thats way beyond a noob..what works for me might work for someone else...better yet how bout a glovebox outside sounds like a even safer bet
