I love it here guys. The rain is just a part of life here, you have to grow to it. I love waking up at 6 am every morning to the sound of rain hitting my roof. Then I drive in it to work every morning, I think about 'things' the whole way there... This state is just a wonder. There really isn't much dangerous about this state, just the terrain really. Sure we have some crazy shrooms and molds, big deal. We also have one of the biggest varieties of life up here. It's amazing, I have a scenic view of the mountain, amazing music history, hippy culture, I love Washington state. I wouldn't rather live anywhere but the northwest. The rain brings shrooms and the shrooms bring life.
I want to die on the top of Mt. Ranier. I want to decompose there as well.
Anyone else feel the way I do about this state?

Yeah man, Washington is pretty bitchin' this time of year. I also love in the fall. The winter not so much. And I agree, the terrain is one of the only real obstacles to traversing the wild landscape out here. It's a cradle for life, though don't cross her cuz she can be brutally harsh too.

I've never been there, but it seems pretty epic. I've been to northwest Wyoming though (Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Park country), and I can't imagine it being all that different. Mountains upon mountains...vast, epic forests...amazing stuff.
One day I'm gonna get up to the PNW

Yeah I feel pretty much the same. I feel connected to this part of the land.
I like Oregon a bit better but living in Washington is almost as good. Being able to see Mt. Rainier all the time is really fucking amazing. It is ridiculously majestic.
The rainy winter only serves to make summertime here into fucking paradise. Winter does suck pretty bad at times but when summer finally returns (like now) I get so damn happy.
Probably gonna stay here forever. The pnw area in general.

Summer has hardly kicked in yet where I am at.
Washington state is an economic bubble. Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Boeing, the list goes on.
There is medical marijuana, fresh seafood, and a strong local/organic food movement.
Washington has relatively low crime and homicide.
The environment is beautiful.
Rain only makes you stronger, dealing with the semi-constant dark and dreary. The atmosphere catalyzes expression.
It's one of many nice places to be.

oregon is better! we have fire obsidian. i do get nice amethyst scepters from washington though. oregon's beaches are ALL public, whereas in washington, alot of it is fenced off and privately owned. the forests are more heavily logged there and the access roads are more gated, making it harder to get good minerals there. i also hate the traffic in washington from the tech jobs in the seattle area. I-5 never runs smoothly anywhere in washington. the olympic peninsula is one of the nicest wild areas in the world though.

Even though I do miss my family and some other Aspects of a more populated area, I do love it here in Humboldt. The culture, the abundance of fair priced health food, the weather, and the breathtaking backpacking environments. 2 More years and im gone forever, but man ill have some epic memories

Yeah it's pretty sad just how logged a lot of areas are.
You drive around and see wasteland where there should be a majestic ecosystem

it's the same here too really. it just seems gloomier in the regenerated forests up there(weyerhaeuser owns most of the land and their style of logging sucks the worst). the old growth is bigger though where it was left, since washington gets alot more rain than oregon. washington doesn't have too many nice towns that i know of. they have bellingham and port townsend as far as i know. in oregon, we have portland, corvallis, eugene, ashland, astoria, newport, bend, sisters... washington does have the nicest carnelian agate in the entire planet around the chehalis river, but all of the old digging sites like adna are now off limits. i was lucky to get in there a few years ago just before everything changed. it's because of weyerhaeuser as well, them bastards. here's an awesome website with haunting historical pictures of the chehalis river watershed being first logged by weyerhaeuser. http://www.cathedralgrove.eu/text/05-Pictures-Politics-10.htm

I've been thinking about school there, haven't looked into my options yet... it sounds lovely to say the least.

I love the willamette valley too. The landscape and natural history make up for the poor economy and expensive housing.
