 Buyer Beware: The Hawks Eye

It can be a daunting task, especially when you're a beginner to mushroom cultivation, to know which websites offering spores for sale are reputable and which one are not. I made the mistake of using The Hawks Eye, in part because I saw that they were a sponsor of this forum. I'm posting verbatim my email to Ryche Hawk at The Hawks Eye regarding an inferior spore syringe I purchased from him along with his response. I work hard for my money, as I'm sure many of you do. It it my hope that by posting this, I can prevent some of you from wasting that hard-earned money at The Hawks Eye.

Hello,
The PE mushrooms drops very few spores, less then 5% of the
mushroom drops spores. Sporeworks and I are the only vendors who
even carry this strain. Sometimes we are able to capture decent
amounts and can put more in the syringes, other times we can not.
The PE is pretty much the only syringe that we will ever send out
light. My current batch of PE's I'm shipping right now is very
spore clouded, so it varies from batch to batch.

If you read between the lines here, you can see that Ryche knew the syringe he was sending out was "light" and that he is okay with that. He is okay sending out a product that he knows is sub-par. If this is what he admits to, imagine the things he's doing that he doesn't admit to. I'll leave it up to you to decide if this is the kind of individual you want to do business with.

My hawk eye PE syringe was fine.
Just because it is not super dark, does not mean it is not useable.

Lol not sticking up for hawk eye but its not what you can see bro that's why they are for microscope use if you can see anything in the syringe that means there are millions of spores in it .. silly goose

Whats the difference between 1,000 spores to view under a scope and 10,000.
If your intention was to missuse thier product... shame on you anyway.

This actually kind of casts him in a positive light. It sounds like you sent him an uppity email explaining that you couldn't see with your naked eye microscopic things and thus automatically declared it poor quality.
And he was pretty polite with you and even explained why he wouldn't want to waste unnecessary spores just to make a syringe look darker, since he doesn't always get a lot of spores from those fruits.

Something tells me that you are not very experienced. I personally make all of my syringes "light". They always work just fine.
That leads me to a question. Did your syringe work?
And that email back to you was nicer than I would have been with somebody
telling me to tighten the reins.
When talking trash about a sponsor one should really have a serious problem. Like. My syringes took 4 weeks to receive or, they are all contaminated.
If your syringe does not work I am willing to bet that Hawks Eye would replace it... Not certain about that as I do not work there but it's not a far fetched idea.
Perhaps try to stop trying to read between the lines.

Fibber. If that were the case, the amount of spores would have had nothing to do with it. If it had enough spores that you could SEE they were only 1/3 as much as another syringe, then it had enough spores.
And a lot of different things could have caused dismal results.
I can't stand whiny, narcissistic little bitches who have failure and then rabidly try to blame somebody else to make themselves feel better, even if it makes no sense.

You might like to know that THE has 0% control of the viability, or amount of spore deposits in their syringes. They use their own well established strains to get spores from, and that's as much control over it you can have. Each mushroom is still different in multispore.

You shouldn't be complaining, op.
With ms syringes, less is more. Your syringe was just fine.
Multiple sets of spores germinate in any one ms inoculation, producing several different "strains" of myc growth. These strains can be incompatible with one another and that affects performance. That's why isolating a single strain on agar increases performance, you don't have all those seperate strains jockying for position like in an ms grow. So, less spore in the syringe isn't a bad thing.
