Interested in growing San Pedro

I decided I want to grow a San Pedro cactus. Not so much to have it to trip, but so I can have something to do over summer (and eventually trip from it :P). What kind of stuff will I need to do this? What kind of seeds should I get? Any other information would be appreciated.

I am looking stuff up, but I figure I might as well get direct advice from people who've grown cactus before.

If you think you'll be able to trip on a san pedro from seed after one summer, you're dead wrong. They grow fast, but not that fast. And it doesn't really require that much work, so don't expect it to keep you busy. It's a nice hobby though, and I think you should try it out.

I know it won't be ready by the end of summer, it's just something I wanna do for fun. I wanna get into gardening and stuff a bit, so I might as well start by growing a San Pedro. Is it better to grow it out of a pot or out of the ground?

its better to buy a cutting. popular auction sites have them for sell and are easy to grow from cutting.

I would really much rather grow them myself from seeds. If I wanted the cactus solely to trip, I'd probably get the cuttings, but I want to grow this on my own and I think that once I finally can trip from it, it'll be a lot more rewarding.
How many seeds do I need? How big of a pot?

World seed supply is one of our vendorsthat carry a broad range of different live plants, seeds, and knowledge to start out.
I put in a huge seed order and it got to me pretty quick. I did it as mail order too!

As many as you want they sell in increments of 20, 100, and goes up from there with increasing price. Sometimes just by weight of seed but just depends.

Ipersonally bought diff cactus in 100 packs just because i like watching things grow. Some seeds might not germinate so itshonestly up to youto decide how much you want to spend.
You should browse back a few pages in the ethnogarden here or just search for topics here. I know what im going to use but myseeds are still in the packs they came in. Maybe someone else will come along and help....or in the meantime read through other posts. I did it and so should you! Beats waiting.

I checked out the site you told me about, and all the Pedro seeds were gone. I found a site that sells seeds in packs of 10 and 20; I think I'll get a 20 pack. I'll check out more posts, but I'm still going to ask questions, just because I'd rather get my questions answered, ya know?

Should I get this kit since it's my first time growing anything? http://www.shamanic-extracts.com/xcart/shamanic-products/san-pedro-growkit.html
I live in Southern California, and I my town is a good place to grow these! They grow all around the mountains that surround my town.

If youre asking questions about containers or any generic its just an easy utse reply. Maybe if it was more advanced or specific youd get em answered easier. Just saying. WSS is not out of pedro seeds bc i just clicked on the 20 pack and its available so i dont know what you clicked on. As far as i cantell none of their Pedro is out of stock for seeds.

Oh thanks! I guess I was looking at the wrong stuff, that site is really confusing to me. I'm torn between getting 100 seeds for $4 or the kit for $30, which comes with 25 seeds, soil, sand, and gravel. I don't ask specific questions because I don't really know what to ask. I'm completely new to cactus, I've never even tripped on it. Can I just use normal cactus soil? Or what's best? Should I start off the seeds in the container I'd like them to stay for when they really start growing?

You could buy the 100 seeds for $4, get some cactus soil and some sand or perlite locally for dirt cheap and build a little terrarium and still come out under $30.
I havn't grown any cacti from seed (yet), so can't really comment on what soilmix is the best. But the point of my post is; kits are overprized in general, you can get what you need much cheaper if you buy the items seperate at local stores. Which, if you have the space, enables you to grow more cacti for less buck if you want to.
