Oh my sweet merciful Lord, that's it! It exudes an extremely tacky substance if you rip a hunk off and squeeze it a bit.

interesting I've never heard of that subspecies before. this paper is all I can find http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/pdf1978/burds78a.pdf the "spines" on bloodworm's find don't look like typical spines of Hericium I've seen though
@suchen, your mushroom looks like it could be Climacodon pulcherrimus to me

North American Mushrooms, pg 407, in comments under Hericium erinaceus.....Hericium erinaceus ssp. erinaceo-abietis is similar in growth form, but has small very short white spines. It is frequently found in southern and central southern United States. It fruits on decaying hardwood logs limbs and stumps
I have found it before (I hope that was it, because I ate it deliceous!) I have pics on my other computer, but the screen is busted right now, so I can't get it. $1 says this is one http://mushroomobserver.org/94567?q=HKBJ

Some great looking photos. Is this a new camera? Do I for some reason remember you borrowing someone else's for some reason? Whatever the case, good stuff man

Here here, I second this statement. And the question. And the implied sexual innuendo.

Nice pics as always blood. If #9,10 is not Gymnopus my next guess would be Xerula/Hymenopellis.
