Flame Sterilization of Spore Syringes

Second-time grower, but first time using spore syringes that I've prepared myself.
I ordered some 10cc medical syringes from Amazon. They came with needles attached. I noticed that when I held them close to a bic lighter (before filling them with spores) that the metal started to change color. It looked like I was burning off a coating on the metal. The tips are now dark brown in color. I proceeded to wipe the needle with alcohol and continue the process.
Are these syringes bad now? Should I have used a cleaner flame? Prior to inoculation, should I hold these needles under a flame again? Why can't I just wipe them with alcohol?

they're fine.
Flame sterilize again before you suck up your spore solution and again when you inoculate.
Alcohol wipes don't sterilize the inside of the needle like fire does.

To be honest, I never flame sterilize my needles when I inoculate. I know....BLASPHEMY!
Don't listen to me though, everyone will tell you to flame sterilize with an alcohol lamp. Just do it.

No, they're perfectly fine.
Should I have used a cleaner flame?
I always use an alcohol lamp and it leaves less Soot on the needle
Prior to inoculation, should I hold these needles under a flame again?
I would, but I don't re-flame in between each jar like some folks do, though I would work in a still air box.
Why can't I just wipe them with alcohol?
You can, I just prefer to be thorough so that I don't contaminate the jars I just worked hard making sterile and it only takes a second. I flame sterilize and then wrap in a new alcohol wipe to cool and keep clean till I am ready to inoculate.
Good luck

Alcohol is a sanitizer not a sterilizer like flaming the needle

if you have any doubt in contams being on your needle, heat with a lighter of any sort, and then cool it by wiping it off with an alcohol swab.

I would keep them dry after use. They may rust after removing that layer.

Thank you all. Good info.
I flame sterilized and cooled/cleaned with an alcohol wipe before inoculating. The idea of soot in my jars is an annoyance, even if it doesn't necessarily pose a risk.

@ I've been doing this off and on for some years now. And never had a problem
I don't like that black soot either. But I guess if I was to use an alcohol lamp, this would fix the problem
