Book- The Science of Yoga

I just learned recently about this book. I think I shall have to check it out. http://www.amazon.com/The-Science-Yoga-Risks-Rewards/dp/1451641427
I thought some of you might also find this interesting. Kinda debunking misconceptions about yoga. At least that seems to be the author's intentions.
Has anyone read this? Did you find it useful? Sounds like he really only examines hatha yoga (not meditation, awareness, etc), and maybe from a prejudice.
A Catholic friend of mine was telling me about this book yesterday. He's not your usual Catholic. We actually have really good philosophical discussions, etc. I value his opinions on things. I was telling him about the "Stripping the Gurus" book that I stumbled across and he was telling me about this book. He was telling me about a part of the book that talks about how many of the practitioners of Tantra back in the day were total social deviants who would do things like covering themselves in shit, and seemingly strange practices like this. Also that hatha yoga was originally derived from these same people. Seems to me a bit like purposeful discrediting without examining the entire cultural and spiritual context to me, but I'm not really sure. I try to keep an open mind to all things including skepticism.

Shamanism and the archaic was never positive mental attitude fluff. I'm probably going to start covering myself in shit sooner or later.

John Schumacher, one of the few Iyengar masters in America wrote a nice response about this: http://www.unitywoods.com/2012/01/a-response-to-how-yoga-can-wreck-your-body/
