It's not too uncommon, anytime I've had poor FAE I've experienced this kind of growth. It's just mycelium stretching out and growing. No real harm or foul but I'd wait and see what others suggest. What applied to me doesn't mean it's going to apply to you always.

there's a cool mist running 24/7 so the FAE should be stellar but there's also an ultrasonic has been on as well the majority of the time on low :/

ps is that the aerial rizo that i keep reading about?

I can't really help you with your setup. I always use a SGFC which cost me $10 total to make and never had any issues getting my cakes to pin.

lol... i told him to run the cool mist the same but quit with the ultra sonic... he says the hygrometer (analog) dropped to 75% so occasional misting until he can get a timer for the ultra sonic

It looks to me like it needs fresh air.  Lots of it.

I'd put that humidifier on a timer.  I use one thirty minutes on, thirty minutes off.  I keep the bottom of the martha unsecured and a zipper partially undone.  Mine's outside, a little breeze parts the front flap.  The mushrooms seem to like that.

Otherwise, he should fan it.

Fresh air and evaporation off the substate will trigger it to produce mushrooms, not fuzzy mycelium.

Ok I think the analog hygrometer isn't responsive.... It saturates when the ultra sonic it running... Which it runs on a 30m cycle of on and off....I know when it's on it's at 99% RH but when it's off, and just the cool mist is blowing, I'm unsure of what the true RH is....

Any thoughts?

Is it bad to let the RH get to 70% it's only for 30 min at a time? I thought maybe the evaporation might heat induce pinning?

For starters don't trust any hygrometers you have. Secondly every time I open my SGFC to fan and mist I'm dropping my humidity way down for a while until I put the lid back on and let the humidity build back up.

It's fine.
