Very good advice. You also can't save yourself.

Saving the world = saving oneself? I think we only try and improve the world because it helps us or we feel that it helps us in terms of survival.

I think human consciousness and experience is something to save (and savor). I don't think we should just sit here and let humanity be destroyed by this civilization. I might not be able to change the world, but WE can. So why shouldn't we try?

In what way is humanity being destroyed by this civilization? This civilization is very beneficial to mine, and many other humans survivals. For example, grocery stores. Food from all over the world in one market, just a walk from your house. I eat better then a king.

That's an incredibly short-sighted and selfish perspective that you hold, wouldn't you say? I'd rather eat potatoes all day everyday than enjoy these transitory sensuous pleasures for myself whilst others are stuck in horrible suffering and starvation.
Have you ever stopped to question what's required for all that food from all over the world to be at your door-stop whenever you want it? The destruction of the livelihood of future generations. Global warming is the obvious way it's being destroyed, and it's a fact. The misuse, failed methods of distribution and our waste of our collective finite resources by selfish individuals is the major cause of this. If our ancestors acted like we do, we wouldn't have been alive to exist and experience the beauty of life. I think this is something worth preserving.
Do you disagree that we are destroying humanity's chances of survival in the near future through our haphazard use of resources and our own hubris? Or do you disagree that humanity is worth saving?

Yet you sit here using a computer powered by electricity in your air conditioned house. I suspect one day that all humans, or at least a higher percentage will have these kinds of living conditions. That's how it always works. A few get the new stuff before it trickles down to the rest.
I'm unsure if we are destroying humanity's chances of survival. Humanity also is neither worth saving, nor worth destroying. Humanity is just an event happening imo.

Also, remember that humanity is going to be gone eventually. whether in 100 years or 100 million. When time stretches out to infinity, the chances of survival always drop to 0.

That's how it's always happened, but that can't continue forever. I also haven't argued against all technology- such as electricity and computers. But rather against the misuse of resources. Even if I did say electricity and computers were immoral, the fact that I'm using them in no way changes whether or not that's a correct statement.
I guess my perspective of is a result my Christian brainwashing, whereas you seem to have more of a Buddhist outlook on life, if you don't mind me being so presumptuous.

Just because we will eventually die, in no way means our life in the present is any less meaningful or any less worse preserving. What relevance does the fact that universe will end bear?
By analogy, we are too going to die, yet you haven't you killed yourself. Why? Because life clearly has value to you and to other human beings, even though we are going to die.

I'm not an anti survivalist. My main concern is my own personal survival, then my families, then my friends. Even though that is my main concern, I still have the clear understanding that this goal is doomed to fail.
I'll agree my posts are pointless. We're all just killing time here.Quote:

I study some Buddhism, correct.

I don't disagree with you. I enjoy my life a lot, and find it very fun and an enjoyable ride. The point of this thread is that I feel people try and save the world to make it more to their liking, and out of very selfish and egotistical reasons. "Only I know the correct way earth should be run!" Type of deal. So now we have 6 billion people who all have their version of what heaven on earth is like. Now, do you suppose everyone is going to agree? Doubtful. What will lead from this? Conflict and war. America and The USSR both thought they new what was best for the world, and in the process of trying to save it, they almost nuked the shit out of it. So the way I see it, the best way to help the world is stop trying to help it.
