jesus talked about being saved in the day of the harvest and destruction and end times, and it's was mostly john and saul/paul that wrote about the theology. most of the quotes from jesus are parables or stories, things that he did, and the theology of it

From the gospel of Thomas:

Quote:

113. His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?"

"It will not come by watching for it. It will not be said, 'Look, here!' or 'Look, there!' Rather, the Father's kingdom is spread out upon the earth, and people don't see it."

That's one of my favorite quotes ever, from any source.  The GoT is golden.

Quote:

Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to His disciples, "These infants being suckled are like those who enter the Kingdom."

They said to Him, "Shall we then, as children, enter the Kingdom?"

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter."

"People convince themselves of their own lies, becoming victims of their own inventions as they begin to direct their lives by standards of behavior, ideas, feelings, or instincts which do not correspond to their inner reality. What is truly serious in this matter is that the individual loses all points of reference regarding what comprises truth, and what comprises lies. He becomes used to considering as true only that which is convenient for his personal interests; everything that is in opposition to his self-esteem or in conflict with already established prejudices, he considers false."

You don't have to convince me it's a fairy tale. :satansmoking:

the only thing that's strange to me is how much the story of Jesus parallels other sun-type gods. there is definitely a historical Jesus though

When it comes to our punishment for sin, eternal/soul death is the punishment.  When it comes to jesus taking that burden upon himself, a simple flesh death with heaven afterwards is sufficient punishment.

That's why I always say Judas was the real hero of the tale. He gives up Jesus and goes to hell for it, and Jesus gets to go to heaven, and it's suppose to be Jesus's sacrifice?

We know for sure that the Bible has gone through many edits and revisions through the years and has been primarily been used as a tool for social and political control. With that said, the Gospel of Thomas and other Gnostic texts seem to be the best source as to what Jesus actually preached. It reads like a Buddhist text.

i remember reading that He could have pulled himself off the cross at any point that He wanted to, which is part of the grace element of it. without Christ humanity slips down the slope. that's what they/pretty much i believe

If he was who they say he was, of course he could have pulled himself off the cross.
