 help...holes before pressure cooking???

Hi...is it neccessary to poke holes in the lids of the jars before pressure cooking or can you put the lids on and make the holes just before inoculation. Thankyou

OP, you need holes in the lid (regardless of the tek) to keep from creating a vacuum in your jars; equal pressure in the jar and the PC is essential. noc ports and GE ports (with filter material) are very important.

Are you doing PF tek, are you doing grains? More information will be helpful.
Re-pressure cooking material is fine, would more then likely be an easier time then trying
to poke holes under aseptic conditions to avoid contamination your jars.

To answer your silly question, OP
If you drill the holes AFTER you sterilize, then you're going to risk contaminating with the dirty nail/new hole.
Always always always always make your holes before you put em in the PC/Pot

Lol, by reading things about microbiology. Google Scholar FTMFW. Things like TMC or GGMM. Not something that's gonna hold your hand the entire way through and not actually teach much about what's really going on.
To me, TEKs are more of a "this is how I pulled it off" instead of "this is how you should do it" type of thing.

I am all for learning, read books, watch videos, tutorials etc..why limit yourself to your
learning by not reading teks and articles on growing? I personally use every tool at my

Teks are def a better way to go about it.
Especially pictorials.
Without them is like pointing at water and saying "eat".
Withit is giving them a pole and showing them how to do it =]
Its nice doing something hands on, messing up asking what you think you did wrong and learning from it
in the process you learn why things are doing what they are doing.
For me going this route made me interested in and undertake microbiology a lot better =]

Thanks guys I re did everything and re pressure cooked them all. It taught me a valuable lesson to really take care of these things like little babies...mushroom babies that is....And if it wasnt for the tens I wouldn't know what to do...so it is valuable to ME. Anyhow....should I just birth my pf cake...birththe cakes and mist once there colonized....ive tried shroom wizards grow tel once where I crumbled the colonozed cakes and added soil...but I got a green contaminate...what is the best method for easy yield....all reccommendations are highly appreciated. Obviously I'm not at that stage yet but I will be soon....thanks....

Just birth them as cakes, you wont be able to get much more (if anymore) out of a cake spawning it to anything.
