Hello from Pacific USA!

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself a little bit before participating in discussions.
As the title states, I am located on the Pacific side of the USA. I am working toward a degree in Biology but enjoy learning anything and everything. I am passionate about science, exploration, philosophy, and art.
In my spare time I hike, practice nature photography, draw, build lasers, and think.
I am not new to mushrooms. I have successfully grown a couple batches of mycelium in a liquid culture from a dried specimen but never got to colonize anything - I had to abandon the project for lack of time during school and moving. I'm planning on starting again and actually getting a successful crop this time.
So far I've read tons of info and enjoy the site very much. Thanks and see you around!

Haha! Born and raised Mormon... but I've never enjoyed practicing church/religion. I found truth and enlightenment in the natural world. Religion can never replace what I've learned since I realized I am an atheist.

Why are you "Unmormon"?
Were you once a mormon?
Why did you choose to no longer be a mormon?
( I'm not a mormon by the way, just curious about new folks. )
Welcome!

Hi, Bundy.
As my post above says (posted a moment before you), I was born and raised Mormon. I abandoned religion at an early age because it does not agree with the way I see the world or with the way I want to live.
My curiosity led me away and education confirmed my disbelief.
There is so much to explore and the narrow view of religion doesn't offer me a satisfying perspective.
I could talk for days about it but I'll save it for another time.

I had a mormon talk to me one day. I had a long sleeve shirt on, and he was adamant about me going to his church on sunday. Then I rolled up my sleeves and he saw all my tattoo's and went on telling me how I ruined "The Temple"
I just told him sorry and I wasn't interested, after he tried to get me to get my ink removed.
I believe in God, not the Mormon God, but I believe in God.
I might have just ruined your thread on you. Lots of God haters here. So if that happens, I'm sorry.
I'm more spiritual than religious. I'll just throw that out there.

It seems most people these days have had some kind of experience with Mormons. Usually it is similar to what you described.
To tell the truth, I am looking forward to the day when the Mormon missionaries come knocking on my door. I'll let them in and discuss their faith... and hopefully by the time they leave they won't be so sure about their god anymore.
All the silly nuances of Mormonism aside, it wasn't necessarily the one religion that I abandoned but religion altogether. I can respect religion as a part of culture and spirituality as a part of the human experience. However, the confines of culture limit what you can experience and how you can experience it. The spiritual experience can be found anywhere you look, without the invocation of god. Nature has given us a window.
As requested, here are some of my photographs:
This first was taken in Joshua Tree National Park

This is a photo of some Arctic Comb Jellies

This last is not exactly "nature"

Also, my avatar is a photo of two winged termites in amber. They have been fossilized in amber together for about 20 million years. If you've seen Jurassic Park, think of the mosquito. But the dinosaurs are much older at more than 65 million years.
