Trichocereus troubles

Greetings all!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have two separate trichocereus related questions and I'm looking for some help.
First, I have a few young bridgesii seedlings, and today I noticed an oranging of the skin on the one seedling. The best way for me to describe this is rust-like in color. The base of the cactus has become more flexible, and the spines have turned gray in color. Is this a case of rust, or perhaps sun burn?

Secondly, while I was inspecting my Pedro crests, I noticed one of the grafted plants was knocked off its base. The cactus my crest was grafted to also started shriveling and turning brown. I fear that my plant was attacked by my cat.
Can I callous my Pedro crest and root it like a normal cactus, especially one this small? I have never attempted grafting before, so I feel as if rooting is my only option.

Thanks for your time

How much full sun are they getting? You could be burning them a bit because they're young and not acclimated to the sun. Try giving them partial sunlight or diffused sunlight and slowly bring them into the sun over a period of 3 or four weeks i think. But wait for an expert to chime in. Good luck.

I started them out this spring in a southern window for a few months, before moving them to the patio where they receive full sun. I used cheesecloth, and slowly removed the layers until they were in full sun. My other three bridgesii seedlings show signs of new growth, and they went through the same process. Maybe this one was acclimated too quickly?!?

Both the bridgesii and the pedro crest remain solid for now. No signs of rot just yet...

Good. Then you can callus the pedro crest. If you do see rot, cut past all rot and dust with sulfur powder. You can get it for roses to treat things like powdery mildew.
As for the seedling, put it in more filtered light IMO.

Thank you! I think I shall add the cheesecloth back to my girls.

when i think of filtered light, i think of shade plants like passion vines. i would get some shade cloth rather than cheesecloth. the red color means too much sun. it can get alot worse.

If you fold a couple layers over, it can make a fine light diffusion cloth. I've raised quite a few seedlings using cheesecloth.

No. If that's the case, you would want some sort of glass. I've had seedlings brown from too much light even under artificial sources, that's when I use my cheesecloth.
EDIT: You could go ahead and get some shade cloth for the UV reflection. It probably turn out to be cheaper and more useful in the long run. It's whatever, my babies never minded my cheesecloth. Then again they are under flouros which put out hardly even a fraction of the UV outside does.

Thank you all for the help and advice!! I think I'll add a few packages of shade cloth to my grow box. Happy growing and good vibes
