Ten reasons you should never get a job
    #16257153 - 05/20/12 09:26 AM (1 year, 30 days ago)

Just came across this article and now i have mixed feelings.

Wonder what some ya'll think of this article.

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/07/10-reasons-you-should-never-get-a-job/

I think it does have some fair points at least.  This part hit me a little - "7. Begging for money.
When you want to increase your income, do you have to sit up and beg your master for more money?  Does it feel good to be thrown some extra Scooby Snacks now and then?

Or are you free to decide how much you get paid without needing anyone’s permission but your own?"

It makes me think I should come up with my own business somehow instead of working for anyone else.  I wish I could think of something tangible tho.

Regardless if you have a traditional job or not, you still need to have an occupation that will generate income for you. I didn't think the article was too great, it seemed too unrealistic to me.

I think everyone would ideally have something making income for them 24/7.  Give me a concrete way to get there and I'll do it too

I wonder if there's anyway to make money running a blog on music or something.    That would be cool.

Only if you can get enough people to care.

Get enough people to care and you can get paid from youtube.

If you want to increase your income, you dont' have to "beg your master for more money" - you simply have to demonstrate to him that you're worth the marginal income you're requesting.  If you do a good job, and deserve what you're asking for - a smart manager will give you it, or risk you getting it from someone else

It presents a good argument for the entrepreneur, however most these people would have what they have without their investment from working. It also seems like the article is meant to build a person up to buying one of his other products offered on the site.

I love how he writes about earning money when one is not working. that is inspiring.

I see people who make 10 times what I make in one hour, and that is where I would like to be. That is serious time efficiency right there!! My real goal is to have such efficiency, in that I minimize my input, and maximize my output.

It is written as an emotion provoking yet inspirational piece, but it does come off as condescending and unrealistic. The author could have made use of examples outside of himself to demonstrate his opinions... (I assume his other articles get into these types of examples to an extent.)

I do think it would get a rise out of many people and that might be life changing in some people, so in that sense, it is excellent.

I agree with the premise that we should all be working towards having passive income and also with the quote:

Quote:

Free human beings think such rules and regulations are silly of course.  The only policy they need is:  “Be smart.  Be nice.  Do what you love.  Have fun.”

Overall the article was provocative but unhelpful, and i think it fails for this reason.

In my own life, I am starting to consider how to attain a passive income and am getting fed up with being a wage slave even though my work environment is quite liberal compared with the office environment he seems to be describing.

Investing is the way I want to go, although entrepreneurship is very appealing, I am not sure if i see my future going in that direction..

I think it's also worth noting that the scooby snack analogy isn't so far cause it's just the way things are that people have to work for money.  I mean the article could even say how money is worthless or the federal reserve prints it out of thin air, but that doesn't change how money can be used - shelter, medical, food, electronics, etc...

Also my own line of work is in sales and it actually is pretty independent in the sense that you make your own hours and it's all up to you really ow much money you make.  Of cour though the owners of the company make way more money than their salesmen and that's the only thing that bugs me but I don't think it's so bad tho.  I'm just doing it part time atthe moment to see what kinda monry I can make working a little.

Getting consistent paychecks every week is pretty decent tho, but I guess I wanna figure out how I can make my own business or something completely inependent I can profit from, besides for teaching guitar or something like that. I mean more like having some kind of revenue, like a UFO blog or something.

Uhh...people are always looking for an easy way out.

Truth is, the old fashioned way works. Go to school, study hard, get a good job, work hard, land a nice well paying job.

That's the way that works. It's hard, a lot of work, but it works.

Arguably, working for yourself is probably more 'old-fashioned' than being an employee of someone else, and it certainly also takes hard work and dedication to be successful. Anyone who thinks it's going to be 'easy' is probably setting themselves up for disappointment unless they happen to be unusually lucky.

I agree with the general sentiment of the article that self-employment is a good idea, but it's more of a sales pitch than practical advice. I get the feeling that the writer wants me to pay to read more fluff on his site, which I have no interest in doing. He seems to be suggesting becoming self-employed by writing articles online like he does, another thing I'm not especially interested in.

Well I did t even read the article and he probably makes mostly a fool of himself as most people do when they try to attack this in society today... HARD WORK is human and makes a man a man... A JOB is an institution for the single most ridiculous thing on the planet: currency that is not readily usable for anything humane...

My philosophy breaks down like this: work hard, play hard
Work by yourself for yourself so that you need absolutely NO ONE else to supplement or aid in your survival

This is being a fucking man
If you can do this you are actually what would be considered an integral part of what a community is supposed to/used to look like... At this point you can now actively participate in helping your fellow man through whatever means possible..
Depending on what u want and how fast you want it outta life get a job for a bit... Or not.. Make money yourself.... Or don't make money.. Make love..

Idk being a minimalist allows me to look at currency as as purely foolish/greed motivated material along with many other things... I don't want any part of em even though I know I need it from time to time to live in the world today...

So basically... GET IT HOW YOU LIVE!!

I thought the writer was either trolling, or doing what you said and just promoting himself so he can get HIS money, lol, doing his job.. writing.

And get paid while sleeping, eating, playing with your kids?  Why should you get paid for stuff like that?  The world would start to spin the other direction if that happened because everything would fall apart.  WTF?

I bust my ass as a slave to big corporations, but I also give 'em all a lil fuck you on the side, while never stopping to think about the big picture and what I can do with my full potential in life.  I won't be doing this stuff my whole life, I know that, but I really don't have a choice now.

Wait I do... I could just roam the country stealing from people and shit.. but that's against my morals.  And far as I'm concerned, if you aren't working for others in any way at all(if you're able), why the hell should you get food?  It would be fun if everyone quit their jobs for a few days, until every service that makes life comfy goes down and we're literally living like animals again.

We could always bring slavery back and just make one particular group do everything for us

kidding

I agree with this man. don't get a job. Create a job. Be your own fucking boss.
Provide a service or product that is in demand. Someone might have done it before so there could be a blueprint on how to get started creating a job for yourself.
