They grow pretty fast.  Not really any good reason to graft them as far as I can tell.  Def. can't graft onto cacti.

I got about 6 kanna seedlings, they grow really fast under my LED-grow lights. Larva from fungus gnats chewed off the roots on two of the seedlings, but they grew new roots after 2 weeks. Thats pretty tough for seedlings with one set of leaves and 1cm height.

Germination time is completely random like stated in the guide earlier, and it definitely help to soak them a few days first. Some people recommend using water at about 35-37C when doing the daily water changing, I did it just in case not sure if it actually had any real effect.

Damn guys,I just can't leave my house over night anymore. While I was gone,it rained really hard, and destroyed a lot of my plants:mad2:The gutters here are awful, and spew water down from three stories all over where I keep my best plants,if I don't move them beforehand. It hasn't rained in three months, and the one time I  decide to stay out, this happens:mad2:Also,my Mesembryanthemum, and Sceletium tortuosum seeds were soaking in water, and they had germinated while I was gone, and the water evaporated.I'm trying to save them, but I think it's no use:sad:They were little fragile green seedlings, with a tap root too.I'm so depressed,I'm going to just go to bed.I'll keep you guys posted, but I doubt they will make it:sad:

I was hoping someone would bump this up,so I wouldn't make three posts in a row,but oh well:-)These actually germinated really fast in my opinion, and I was thinking it would take a lot longer for some reason.Never did get the sand either.

How weird, I thought I made a reply after your rainy accident post. Seems like I just imagined it or never got to submitting it.. Anyway, good to see those little seedlings made it! Hope your other plants did too. The soil looks very saturated.

How many seeds did you sow?

Just a little rant..

I'm still waiting on my seeds, seems like I keep on having bad luck with ordering Sceletium tortuosum. First online vendor had them 'in stock', so I ordered and paid, only to find out later -after at least a month of waiting- they weren't expecting to get those seeds back in stock soon.

I ordered some seeds again via another vendor more than 2 months ago, though I'm still waiting on those. They said it could take up to 10 weeks to deliver, but those weeks already passed. Now they don't seem to respond their e-mails..

I'm not sneakily asking for seeds! Just a little disappointed that I'm fruitlessly attempting to get those seeds for half a year or so. And I already paid for them so they better send them soon. :mad2:

Hi
I've been growing Sceletium Tortuosum for nearly a year. I bought them as plants and cuttings.
I had them under led lights while they rooted then shifted them to a south facing window sill.
I'm in the southern hemisphere New Zealand. Right now I have two flowers and a mass of developing buds. I plan to harvest seeds. Then ferment the entire plants. Growing new plants every year.
My most pressing question is watering. I just read that I should not water kanna in the summer. ???.
I've watered less in winter. The plants on the window sill have elongated. It dosn't seem a life threatening issue. Still growing flowers at the end of very long tips. The kanna I kept under led lights grew very compact. That was 16 17 hours of light a day. Vegetive not allowing flowers to develop.
I think also because led light is so non threatening I didn't water them very much. The plants receiving 6 hours or more of full sun I watered alot.
My strategy for next year is to germinate them under 24 hour led light. Then put them out a month before spring. So they adjust to flowering.
Should I water in the summer? Seems counter intuitive not to. On the other hand not watering in the summer might be in my best interests to dry out the plants.
To ripen the seed then concentrate the psychoactives in preparation for fermenting.
After I've got seeds I'm going to ferment whole plants. Hopefully the 3 year harvest is a myth.
I think the secret is in the whole plant roots in all. I've had very good kanna and very bad kanna.
Hopefully having the plant will put buying. Weak badly prepared kanna behind me.
