Hey man i dont know if you have a starbucks in your area, but as far as a place holder job it kicks ass. You are eligible for full benefits health 401k etc if you work at least 20 hours a week. Plus starts off at like $9 an hour depending on where you live. You also get free pounds of coffee 30% of everything and as much coffee as you can drink while u work!! I worked there for over three years, when i left i had over 500 business cards from customers i had met. When i left to start my own business i had plenty of people i networked with made the transition a breeze. Plus you ll probably be working with all college girls, at least thats how it was when i was there. Just something to think about. Good luck buddy! Oh yeah and i have full sleeves and didnt exactly look the part, but i had a blast working there

I worked Peet's for a while and that was a really stimulating experience. They always kept me busy so the hours would fly by, and I really enjoyed serving people their treasured coffee. I met a lot of characters. The store would hold contests to see who could sell the most of the special blends and I always won.
Plus, that's an easy job to get if you're persistent about bugging the manager to give you an interview. It also helps if you drink a lot of coffee before the interview.

i always thought working a warehouse job was better cuz you really only had to stand in one spot and you could litterally not say shit the whole day and no one would give a fuck, plus the schedule never changed.
fast food is wack im starting at a wendys now to save up and mcdonalds was better they gave you a free lunch no this half off bullshit and the cooking area was seperate from the main part of the building so the customers couldnt grill you while you were making food, they also had a basement for stock and chill down there.
now im closing so there may be a point everyweek where imm there till 3.30 in the a.m. for me its no big deal but penn station starts up at my house at like 7 so i dunno if i can do this any further then the summer...

I'd do physical labor over the food industry any day of the week and I've worked both. Hungry people are the biggest pricks.

McDonald's might not be the best place to work but you need to see this the way our grandparents did:
It's not a shitty low paying job, it's an opportunity!

This is so true.
I might be getting a part time job in a food truck with a brick fire oven for pizzas here pretty soon. Hopefully it wont be too bad since my friend is the one that owns it.

Apply at FedEx. I've been there a little over a year (have to go in at 430 AM though) and I'm at 12.81 an hour after starting at 10.10. I might get another job (full time) there in the upcoming weeks where the pay is probably 14 plus.
Just bust your ass and do what the bosses say and you'll be rewarded far more then at McDonalds.

What do you do at FedEx?
We don't have a local FedEx, but we do have a local UPS.

i got a job dishwashing with no previous dishwashing experience. I did that for 4 months and then was promoted to cook. Now I work cooking in a fancy french restaurant under an amazing chef who just got his picture in the paper. beats fast food by a fucking mile. restaurants are always looking for reliable dishwashers.

I was a dishwasher for a little while. I hated it. Probably because of the system. The only had 1 dishwasher ( me ) and I came in at 6pm.
By the time I got there their were so many dishes. I was already behind before I even clocked in.
The cooks didn't do any dishes all day long ( the restaurant opened at 6am ) so 12 hours of dishes piling up. I'd finally get caught up around 9pm, then get slammed with work ( making deserts, cleaning the basement, dusting off the wine room, moping the kitchen, cleaning the burners/grills, work stations. And by the time I was done with that, it was mid-night and we had all the bar go-ers getting wings and booze, I didn't leave till 3-4am.
They put me on the line once, but then learned I couldn't cook.
I got paid 9$ an hour though to wash dishes. Wasn't too bad.
But I won't do that again.

Yeah I feel you. I hate that feeling of being behind. I once worked a shift at a club washing glasses during a special function. It was crazy, literally non-stop with only one dishwasher and hundreds of glasses coming in, I couldn't stop for even 1 minute because the whole thing would get backed up. I was a machine, lifting these heavy racks of glasses from above my head down to the washer which was on the floor (my back hurt for weeks). Didn't finish til 530am. The saving grace was that it was a public holiday after 12am so I got double time, ended up making about $300 for that shift

I just got done with a 30 ish hours shift since thursday to sunday and man was that tough
thinking about it now tho at windys the most the crew can make is ten bucks so like the people that have been there 10 years cant make any more money with out getting more decent english maybe or they aren't looking for that position there, this other guy is litterally stuck there cause his parents divorced then his mom got this rare disease and the dickheads at the college didnt withdraw him becuase they're about as helpful as a hole in the wall. so yea the place sucks and you have to take out trash and this and that but the thing is they dont have a dishwasher there working all the time like i noticed at miccy dees so when we close it takes a freaking hour, at 3 at night mine you...
otherwise its ok I jus wrote about it now cause im gettin these weird craving for their burgers and raw meat... weird.

I had to take a job at pizza hut...fucking sucks, just quit/got fired.. I say quit cuz I told my boss that I quit and that she is a fucking idiot and the worst manager I've had in my 10 years in the workforce, no wonder her store was ranked dead last by a longshot in our region

I would know first hand too because I used to work at Burger King for a year. Pay is not bad, but customers will make you
Especially the seniors who constantly ask for that senior discount

Burger king was the shittiest paying job I ever had...I got paid $6.25 / hr. People treated me like I was less than human too. Crotchity old bastards cussed me out for not giving him the senior soft drink.
