This is going to be awesome. I saw mercury cross in front of the sun a few years ago. I had sun glasses on as I was driving and as I got to the crest of a hill the sun was directly in that strip of tint at the top of your windshield that stretches across, so along with the sun glasses I was able to see a little black dot on the sun.
When I got home I looked it up and sure enough it was the transit of mercury.

so fucking cool but no telescope for me, could it be 'seen' with that shoe boxe and toilet paper kinda device??
*related anecdote, when I was like 7 or 10 i dunno there was a solar eclipse going on during school time. we were all pretty excited but our teacher decided that only 1 kid would be allowed to see it, the mega nerd of the class. ways to angry everyone and isolate the kid furthermore  I guess we were just really mean kids
