I feel you I just did this 2 days ago.

It wasn't too bad though. For mine I just poked a stick gently through the bottom. Then shook it upside down and caught as it slowly came out.

I got stuck just a little bit but I never wear gloves.  I kind of like the feeling of it. Sometimes I'll prick my fingertips on the spines of my cacti on purpose.

I poke around the edges, then flip it upside down, curl my fingers into the edges, and catch the rootball as it slides out. its alot like taking a plant out of those nursery 6-pack trays..

it's quick and dirty  ...and every once in awhile, the rootball breaks apart on the way out

This one I want repot too but I cant decide how I want to go about it. Its about 3 feet wide and 50 pounds.
Any suggestions? Im thinking of laying a towel over the top and turn it upside down while holding the towel and gently lowering it or should I dig one out and then the rest?

I would put some cardboard under it.  Then lay it on its side and pull the pot off.  Wear leather gloves, and use cardboard to pick it up.  That should keep you safe from the spines.  The cardboard on the bottom will help you recover any soil that falls off.
